The U will always be a sleeping giant until the next great coach comes along...

I can't pinpoint the exact moment, but somewhere between VT and Duke last year, it all changed. I compare it to the moment the detective in The Usual Suspects makes the Keyser Soze connections. It all hit me at once, too. All the talk of clouds, all the substance-less puffery, the incessant excuse-making, I reached my tipping point and it flipped a switch in me. To the point where, for the first time in as long as I can remember, I didn't watch the Spring Game. I paid little attention throughout the summer workouts and practices, and I fought the urge to get excited for the opener (and any other game since then).
Great post. This paragraph in particular perfectly describes how I feel.

My tipping point was this year's Louisville game.

I almost tipped when I sat through that miserable rainy night in Maryland. We made the Terps look like Alabama.

Goldie's had his shot, and failed miserably. He should have been fired after Louisville. I support his removal by any legal means.

became a fan the day we lost to washington in 2000

I was 7 years old and dindn't witness another loss until the BS Fiesta Bowl.

didn't witness another regular season loss until VT in 2003.

as a kid in middle school I was depressed all week long after a loss. almost cried when I saw FSU lining up for the game winning field goal in 2002. I had always heard about the Wide Rights but never really experienced one of that magnitude in my life until that day. 2000 game we were up by 3 points at the time and I knew the canes would have punched them in the mouth in OT. I lost my voice when they missed wide left in 02
