Article: CaneHunt ’14: DT | Defensive Tackles Board | FEB 18

TexCane
Miami will offer scholarships to approximately 170-200 prospects every year. They have already offered 82[scholarships for the 2014 Class. Each school has a BIG Board and position boards, which list prospects by their priorities. Our “CaneHunt” boards are our attempt to “guess” the Hurricanes’ recruiting priorities. These boards will change throughout the recruiting cycle. CHECK BACK OFTEN during the year to check on the boards and get the latest updates on prospects. We hope you enjoy CaneHunt ’14.

Miami’s Need: 2-3

1. Name: Khairi Clark

1/8/13: ITU posted a story of DT Khairi Clark. “Chaminade Madonna's Khairi Clark had the build of an elite defensive tackle as a sophomore. He will be one of the top prospects in Florida for the 2014 class.”

2. Name: Thomas Holley

Hometown/School: Brooklyn, NY (Abraham Lincoln)
HT: 6-4 / WT: 285/ 40:
Season Stats:
247sports Composite Rating: 90 / Rank: #22 DT
Scouting Report (s): NA
Schools of Interest: ( 5 ) BC, UConn, FSU, Miami
Leader(s): Too early
Status: Offered
Chance: Fair

UPDATES:

2/18/13: The Canes have found another relatively unknown gem in Coach Golden old stomping ground, the New York-New Jersey area. Thomas Holley just started playing football last season. He’s a very big and quick DT. Thomas was a basketball player, but is now focusing on football. He’s so quick, his coach used him at fullback in short yardage situation. Thomas is gaining exposure as schools get his video. I anticipate he will shoot up the chart as his senior season progresses. The Canes would like to continue the pipeline started last year with Kevin Olsen, Al Muhammad and Gus Edwards.

3. Name: Andrew Brown

Hometown/School: Oscar Smith (Chesapeake, VA)
Ht: 6-4 | Wt: 282 | 40:

UPDATES:
12/24/12: 247sports/VT Scoop posted in December…

Andrew Brown is the #1 DT in the country and #4 prospect overall according to 247 sports.

4. Name: Travonte Valentine

Hometown/School: Palm Bay, FL (Bayside)
HT: 6-4 / WT: 297 / 40: 4.90

247sports Composite Rating: 98 / Rank: #3 DT
Scouting Report (s): NA
Schools of Interest: (17 ) UF, UM, OKL, Bama, Aub, Miss State, Clem, FSU…
Leader(s): Florida
Status: Verbal to UF
Chance: Fair

UPDATES: 2/10/13

2/18/13: Travonte Valentine is a massive DT that has given his verbal commitment to Florida. He’s the #2 DT in the nation and should be considered a “soft” verbal at this time. It will be hard for the Canes to flip Travonte from the Gators, but we should Trust the Tie.

5. Name: Demarcus Christmas

Hometown/School: Bradenton, FL (Manatee)
HT: 6-4 / WT: 287 / 40:

Leader(s): FSU
Status: Verbal to FSU
Chance: Poor

UPDATES:

2/10/13: Demarcus Christmas is a solid FSU commit at this time. The #9DT, according to 247sports, will be a tough pull for the Canes. However, it’s a long way to NSD, 2014.

6. Name: Jay Hayes

Hometown/School: Brooklyn, NY (Poly Prep)
HT: 6-5 / WT: 270 / 40: NA
Season Stats: Not available

Is this going to be pinned or maybe a subforum?

Moten is far and away the #2 guy we are going after and Valentine de comitted from UF on Saturday

No Moten on here?

Moten is currently being recruited as a SDE. However, many feel that IF he continues to grow, he will shift inside to DT. Good question.

Valentine Decommited from UF

Hey Tito...

Thanks for the update. I'll make that change. It's amazing how things can change. Rumors said he was a "soft" verbal, but this is amazing. Lol.

Mods, this is a great thing this canehunt,

gotta do something so they are not dissappearing into the rest of the threads. stickies or a sub forum or something please!

edit: or perhaps one stickied thread at the top with links to all the individual position threads so it doesn't take up as much space.
