Allison leads, and Rosier is in 2nd place at the moment.

I would hope that is the case. Allison , like Perry , is a special player. Rosier is a good back up , nothing more.

It is very hard to start as a true frosh. Kaaya was uber talented and had nothing but Heaps ( who got NFL looks so he wasn't dogmeat) in front of him. UM has 3-4 other very decent to good QBs right now. We just need someone to manage the game this season. If he can be like Krenzel was the year OSU got the cheap title then we are golden. Perry is the future but both Cade and Allison are **** talented as well. I think all 3 will start in college for at least a year but I obviously think one of the 3 won't be doing it here.

People keep bringing up Kaaya starting as a freshmans, but Rick wasn't the HC. And Heaps was here about as long as Kaaya when they were slap fighting for the job. On top of that, Folden used Kaaya's status as a freshmans to keep the heat off him for an extra year.

Allison needs to break into the top 2 this year, or he may never see the field here. It's not going to get any easier with Perry coming in, Weldon getting reps, and Sitkowski coming next year. His time is now to step up and either take the job, or at the very least secure the #2 spot. If he doesn't do it soon, in my opinion, he never will. Not saying it can't happen, it's just not going to get any easier. If he can't get ahead of Shirreffs or Rosier, how will he be able to stay ahead of the guys coming in that are very talented?

Perry may very well end up being the most talented QB on the roster but that hardly means he will start. If anything, Richt has shown us he's more willing to make the safe play that might have lower upside (Berrios at PR and Lewis at KR) than to throw a guy out there that he doesn't totally trust to make the right decision.

Yep, and trust is earned, not given. Perry very well could be the most talented QB the minute he steps on the field. That does not make him the most trusted. Not even close. Perry will start out near the bottom of the depth chart, and will have to earn his way up it. I don't doubt his ability for a second, but I do doubt that he has time to earn Richts' trust before the season starts. Now if everyone in front of him fails to get the job done, I don't think Richt will have any problem playing a true freshman if he feels that will give him the best chance to win. He'll have to be backed into that corner, though, by the other QBs losing his trust.

Perry will make the other QBs better, which will make Perry push even harder. He's coming for their jobs.

Too much focus on the next starting QB! Every true Canes fan know our DNA: RBs, WRs, TEs, DTs, LBs, and Safeties. We are known for dominating defense, stable of RBs, game breaking WRs, clutch TEs, and a game managing QB. We may have won the top award several times, and the media selected our QBs, but we know they was not the best players on the team. Let's just continue to rebuild the defense, load up on RBs/WRs/TEs. It's the U!

All of that won't matter if our starting QB is horrible.

Please read the comment! I shared that the QB just need to manage, not elite. For example, the Dan Marino had all that stats and became HF, but dolphins were not able to stop anyone. Kosar, Dorsey, and Walsh won championships by managing the game with dominating defenses. Gino was average, but not great. Agree, horrible QB play will impact any team.

I think at this point all we want is a QB to step up and take the job, not be the best of a bad bunch. Here's hoping at least one of them can. I believe every single one of them will improve with real competition, and that should mean the starter being at the very least able to manage the O. Here's hoping.
