CanesInsight learned that Miami hosted a three-star prospect over the past weekend in power forward Chris Birden, who has been a long-term target for Miami assistant coach Charlton Young.
Birden is a 6-foot-8 hybrid four-man originally from New Orleans (La.). He has a lengthy frame and is very active on both ends of the floor. Birden also plays on the same team as five-star Miami point guard target Deron Rippey Jr. with New Heights.
I had a chance to catch up with the three-star prospect after he visited Miami, and here’s what he had to say about the Hurricanes' coaching staff, how they plan to use him, and how the visit went overall.
"My recruitment is going well. My visit was this past weekend, and everything went great. I think Coach Jai and the staff is great. The conversations with the staff have been good, and we will continue to build our relationship. The staff was really informative about the direction of the program and how I would fit into their system. Great overall visit."
Birden really enjoyed his visit. After looking more into his recruitment, I found that he also took a visit to Missouri back in 2023, where assistant coach Charlton Young was one of his main recruiters. Now, Young is leading the charge to recruit him again, this time to Miami.
He has an On3 and 247Sports account but is not rated; however, ESPN has him rated as the No. 55 power forward in the class of 2026. Birden has five offers from Texas State, Elon, Northeastern, California Baptist, and Western Carolina.
