2017 LB Thomas Ready to Make an Impact

When asked to describe his game 2017 Columbus (Fla.) linebacker Guy Thomas says he’s fast and physical. While most would assume he would compare himself to a current NFL edge rusher, Thomas was more specific with his selection.

“I play like Lawrence Taylor because when I’m standing up I don’t think anyone can stop me or block me,” said Thomas. “I’m quick and I’m fast.”

Thomas recently transferred to Columbus this past offseason coming from Hialeah and has noticed the talent level increase on his new team.

“I’m playing on a way harder level now with a bunch of great athletes. Those players, we push each other to work harder and prepare for each game.”

The 6’3 205 pound rush edge linebacker isn’t dedicating much time to recruiting right now, but that hasn’t stopped schools such as Alabama, Florida State, Miami, South Florida and Temple from offering.

The Crimson Tide were the latest school to offer Thomas this past week and he feels the coaching he would receive at Alabama would prepare him for the NFL.

“Alabama is a great place, the coaching staff up there is all about business.I can see myself going there and getting taught up,” said Thomas. “The best linebackers come out of Alabama and I think I’d be great coming out of Alabama at outside linebacker.”

The Seminoles are closely linked with Thomas as his brother Matthew Thomas currently plays for Florida State. Thomas enjoys the Seminoles coaching staff and feels very comfortable with them.

“It’s like family over there, I like the coaches and I really get along with them.”

While most would assume that the older brother has made it his mission to lure Thomas to Tallahassee, The 2017 prospect says that isn’t the case.

“He just tells me to just do me, work hard and just stay focused. He doesn’t tell me anything about Florida State.”

The hometown Hurricanes were another team to jump in early on Thomas and location seems to play a big factor with them.

“I really consider Miami because it’s close to home and I like to be close to my family,” said Thomas. “If I had to pick a school on top right now, it would be Miami.”

Thomas speaks with linebackers coach Hurlie Brown and also knows current players such as Chad Thomas, Demetrius Jackson and Deon Bush.

While Thomas is getting recruited not only by the Hurricanes coaching staff, his teammate Josh Uche is doing what he can as well.
“He says he wants me there with him at UM and that he would love to have me at ‘The U’ with him.”

Thomas plays against Winter Haven this Friday and recorded 9 sacks last season.

Might be the best DE tandem in the country. One runs a 4.5 laser and the other is in the 4.7's entering his junior season. Both have Bama offers.

Interested in seeing how much he develops, coming from a program like Hialeah. Rollins and Uche were basically unknowns coming from palmetto. Coach Marti has done a great job with developing Dlineman at columbus. 6-7 first team all-dade players since he's been there. You also have a better off-season program at Columbus, by far.

His brother has had tough time at FSU so that link might not be as strong

I know it's early, but 2017 LB targets, how many can we take?

i'd say 1 more. Miami is all over DeAndre Wilder they want him badly. Thomas will play DE in college so if he commits it will be as a DE.

Thought I saw a few people on here say he had no interest in Miami?

Quick Notes:
Matt Thomas could take his own advice since he isnt eligible

Guy looks like he likes us alot espcially since that whole Columbus crew got offers from us. Very Pro UM school as well.

On 247 it says he goes to SJB Academy...any idea why? Never even heard of that school

Let me tell you about another Thomas. Keir Thomas. I am at the Royal Palm Beach vs. Central Rockets game. Meir Thomas is pure domination. He is in the backfield on every snap. Man child. We must get him from fsu or he will wreak havoc on us for at least 3 years. Our OL Donaldson is humongous. Need to keep him. Jamal Cook playing well, scored a TD on a reception. None here are on Thomas level. Will be a 5* soon.

Our coaches, in their infinite wisdom, still haven't offered Thomas yet. It's hard to get a proper evaluation on a recruit when they're within driving distance of your campus.
