Guys....

Fast break spread college offenses cannot be stopped.

Auburn raped the best D in the nation...FSU. Look at what Texas A and M did to Bama.

I want our focus to be on building a dominant offense.

I'd rather have a dominant defense. What typically happens when the #1 offense goes to play the number 1 defense?

Film looks good but like many have said he is playing next to Demarcus Christmas. Let see how he does when he is the man this year. I hope we dont have another "Todd Chandler" on our hands here. (TC BALLED OUT OF CONTROL as a junior for MNW when he played next to Forston. Then as a senior for some odd reason he just wasnt dominating anymore. Wonder why?)

Anyway, If a DT wants to come and accept this scheme with open arms I am all for it. Buddy flat out said he is a nose guard and knows he wont be asked to rush the passer much. WANT.

Todd Chandler was a sophomore hence fortson 08 Chandler 10 but this kid looks ok maybe a courtel jenkins type improvement

You guys do know that most 3-4's are built on 2-gap principles..? You do this to compress the pocket and get your linebackers AND edge rushers (Thomas, AQM, McCord, Smith, DJ..) to attack. With our recent run on LB's that can play downhill with a little space and our recent miss on attacking DT's the 2-gap is how we should go about things until we develop some aggressive space eaters..till then let the big boys take up space while Perryman blows ish up..this year our numbers should be better on the DL so those 3 to 4 space eaters we had last year should rotate upwards towards 5-6 which gives them more energy and creates more plays to be made. Now this is how its "supposed" to run I can't wait till Labor Day when we'll find out what this team is capable of.

No.

Ok size, but call me crazy, I'd rather move to a 4-3 and sign someone like boyce.

Both Super Bowl teams play the same defense as we do, along with San Francisco.
Scheme isn't the problem. Previous talent level was.

You need a steadfast NT, not one who gets pushed 10 yards into your mlb.
Your DE's have to pretty much be 275-290 and stout. We have that with Chick, but didn't have the depth last year.

You also need your lb's to fly into gaps. In other words no Jimmy Gaines or Cornelius.

Having good safeties helps as well.

You haters keep hating, but 2014 is the year to really judge.

As for the people who say, "why play a scheme if you don't have the talent?"

The answer is simple: so the players that matter have multiple years of experience with the scheme when the accompanying talent arrives.

It's the difference between forward thinking and shortsightedness.
Chess versus checkers.

"I’m pretty much a 2 gap player, but there’s times where I charge the quarterback too." OH BROTHER! New Year same Shiat.

You do realize our defense isn't a full 2 gap system its a hybrid right? There are kids who are going play the 2 gap and Fines is one of them. Guys like Kamalu, McCord are in one gap assignments.

Great Post!!

Off topic/Player. Any details on 2015 Commit Charles Perry? Seems like there might be a few hidden LB gyms down South. Is Perry a baller?

Yes, he can ball. I view him as a less explosive Telvin Smith.

which is good s Smith was my fav LB in college last yr.

Perry is very athletic though....kid plays rb and takes plays to the house 50 60 yrds....also his frame can add a whole lot of weight and he seems to be all cane......

Perry is a nice pick up.

Fines has some tree trunk legs. Going to be hard to push him off his spot.

Was at a buddy's 50th Bday party last night. A NFL Hall of Fame Nominee was also there. An acquaintance who runs a website and does HS recruiting on Brighthouse network, told me he thinks Fines is the best DL in the greater Tampa Bay Area. Says its good that He and his family have made the decision together because many will be coming after him. Says he's a 5 star if anybody is. He went on to say he's not sure how well Byron Cowart (DE Armwood High) will do against guys his own size and bigger. Says he maybe overly developed and may be one of those that has reached his peak. Says he doesn't know why but Armwood guys have never excelled at the top level of college ball. That is true cause I know them all.
