2014 Norcross (Ga.) tight end Chris Herndon isn’t taking any breaks this year as he is preparing for his senior season in hopes of winning another state title.
“I go to workouts every monday through thursday from 6:30 to 8:30. Sometimes on the weekend I’ll go to LA fitness and workout to get my body ready for the long season coming up.”
Norcross won the state championship last year and has been receiving criticism from those who believe they won’t be able to do it again. Herndon is ignoring that and motivating his team to prove they can repeat as state champs.
“We won the state championship last year so right now a lot of people are doubting us thinking we can’t do it again because we lost a big part of our offense with Alvin Kamara and our quarterback. We’ve all been sacrificing our time for football instead of hanging out.”
When it comes to being a senior leader, the 6’4 230 pound tight end has not neglected the responsibilities and is doing what it takes to be a leader.
“During workouts, if I see one of the younger teammates that I know will be a leader slacking or not working hard I’ll go over there and motivate them and push them to work harder.”
Herndon committed to the university of Miami during the summer and is still solid to the Hurricanes for the moment being.
“I’m still mostly committed there, my coach at my school is telling me that other schools are looking to offer me. I’ll definitely keep my options open, but so far right now I’m still committed.”
The Norcross product is still in contact with Miami on a consistent basis and mostly speaks with tight ends coach Larry Scott.
“I talk to coach Scott and coach Barrow weekly. Whenever I get a chance I call coach Scott and talk to him because I have his number.”
Herndon also talked a little bit about his role with the Hurricanes offense and how he can contribute.
“They’re recruiting mostly as an H-back type of person tight end, but coach Scott tells me that when I get there they are going to work on me with my speed and get me bigger and stronger.”
Unfortunately, the Georgia native will not be able to attend the Hurricanes Senior day in August, but is looking to take an official visit to Miami.
“If I did take a visit anywhere, Miami would be the first place and probably for an official visit.”
