2014 TE Herndon Keeping Options Open

2014 TE Herndon Keeping Options Open

Tito Benach
2014 Norcross (Ga.) tight end Chris Herndon isn’t taking any breaks this year as he is preparing for his senior season in hopes of winning another state title.

“I go to workouts every monday through thursday from 6:30 to 8:30. Sometimes on the weekend I’ll go to LA fitness and workout to get my body ready for the long season coming up.”

Norcross won the state championship last year and has been receiving criticism from those who believe they won’t be able to do it again. Herndon is ignoring that and motivating his team to prove they can repeat as state champs.

“We won the state championship last year so right now a lot of people are doubting us thinking we can’t do it again because we lost a big part of our offense with Alvin Kamara and our quarterback. We’ve all been sacrificing our time for football instead of hanging out.”

When it comes to being a senior leader, the 6’4 230 pound tight end has not neglected the responsibilities and is doing what it takes to be a leader.

“During workouts, if I see one of the younger teammates that I know will be a leader slacking or not working hard I’ll go over there and motivate them and push them to work harder.”

Herndon committed to the university of Miami during the summer and is still solid to the Hurricanes for the moment being.

“I’m still mostly committed there, my coach at my school is telling me that other schools are looking to offer me. I’ll definitely keep my options open, but so far right now I’m still committed.”

The Norcross product is still in contact with Miami on a consistent basis and mostly speaks with tight ends coach Larry Scott.

“I talk to coach Scott and coach Barrow weekly. Whenever I get a chance I call coach Scott and talk to him because I have his number.”

Herndon also talked a little bit about his role with the Hurricanes offense and how he can contribute.

“They’re recruiting mostly as an H-back type of person tight end, but coach Scott tells me that when I get there they are going to work on me with my speed and get me bigger and stronger.”

Unfortunately, the Georgia native will not be able to attend the Hurricanes Senior day in August, but is looking to take an official visit to Miami.

“If I did take a visit anywhere, Miami would be the first place and probably for an official visit.”

this is going to backfire on one of these kids someday. We're tight for spots, I'd tread carefully if I were him

I don't expect a kid from Norcross to be all die hard about his Miami commitment

would be nice to keep him on board, but if he wants to bail, we've got plenty of kids we could add to this class

I'm not sure why we're recruiting another tight end anyway, with Dobard and O'Donnell as freshman, and Lockley and Griffin joining in December

Wouldn't be surprised to see him not wind up in the class

Stay strong young man. NFL loves Cane TEs and is waiting for our next one. We haven't had the material the last couple years but if you got the goods, THE U is the shortest route to NFL for a TE. But be careful about looking around too much. This staff wants kids on the train. They see you looking out over the parking lot and your ticket could be gone when you turn around. The players playing TE at THE U the next few years with Olsen and Kaaya, this Oline and WRs, are going to the NFL. Not many schools put TEs in the NFL, we do.

I hope it works out. But "If you are looking, we are looking"

Wait, wait, wait, is he Lorenzo Carters teammate? If so I would do whatever to keep this kid around lol. To be honest though, I don't think anybody should be surprised because there will be some kids who leave this class and he's a prime suspect to be one of them. He's a Georgia product with not many offers and somebody who UM can replace pretty easily so either way I can easily see this kid not in this class

If we want more than one TE in this class, I'm cool with holding onto him. If we don't need more than one, then just give me Ryheem Lockley at TE and call it a success. He will be a beast

Kid is a player and I would like for him to stick, but it ain't the end of the world. Frees up a scholly for a position of need or maybe we get Pierce.

If Herndon is looking the Canes are looking,,,,

Wtf they never stopped lol they were just trying to get Austin Roberts at the same **** position and who do you think they're taking if they're choosing just 1? It's not a big deal the staff is always looking at other tight ends and if he leaves fine

Everyone knows Coach Golden is always trying to improve his football team.
