This was by design. Manny Diaz recruited these types because that's what his defense uses. It also is his wheelhouse of evaluation because he can't compete recruiting pro style pro projectable players. So...his defense is filled with niche players that become unique to his system. Especially the lower end 3-star recruits...many are one trick ponies that were deep development types.

kids who were good performers in HS, but didn't have upside projection to be really good players for UM.

contrast that with the potential upside of guys Mario and Alonzo have evaluated and targeted like Acheampong, Jackson Carver, Emory Williams, Jayden Wayne, Robby Washington ... the ceilings for guys like that are night and day to the Keontra Smith's and Allen Haye's of the world.
