Hard time understanding why we played so much zone against a supposedly predominantly running QB starting his first game. Watching Shaq running backwards to his zone coverage area was painful.
Not surprisingly Blake was out coached again.

Said the same thing as I watched those first two drives by VTech. It’s like he didn’t read the scouting report or remotely come prepared for what that kid offered as a qb. Amateur hour at Miami continues.

Zone is preferable to man against running QBs because with zone you can keep your eyes on the QB, whereas with man you turn your back to the QB to cover your man.

The problem was we didn't have a plan with rush lane integrity, QB spies, DE contains. And the rampant zone blitzing once again left wide open crossers and TEs leaking out of the formation.

This defense from top to bottom every week is undisciplined, unprepared and completely outschemed.

Bruh,
Miami rarely ever the last few years had great rush lane integrity! The number of times our dline runs right past a QB or Running back up the gut has been a problem forever! Why we send edge blitzes with Pinckney and Shaq when one of the two needed to be in a spy is mind boggling! The one thing the Vtech QB was gonna do yesterday was step up in pocket and take off running, which is what I wish our QBs would do!

the D was very undisciplined from what I understand in our D that TE leaking out is on the safety you can’t get washed up inside as many times as we did. We don’t create constant pressure with 4 either. Garvin has improved his run D but as a pass rusher I think he’d be better off on the right side(his left side)..but with all that said the defense is not elite, it’s young and you can’t put them the positions out O did early. At the same time they have to force a FG in those spots. That’s what separates the elite Ds...I think they gave up two explosive plays. One that Bubba got picked on and one bandy got beat on

It’s almost axiomatic to state that The UM staff was out coached. Been that way for the better part of 20 years now.

Problem is the game plan on defense was simple going against a running QB making his first start, we couldn't even come up with a good game plan.

Funny thing was I thought they should've used the same game plan they had against Florida and make him prove he make the throws.

Looked like we were playing a soft prevent defense, we thought there was a reincarnation of Vick that was playing. ****, we played Vick tougher back then by getting in his face play after play. We are so ....... soft.

Probably should of put 10 or 11 in the box and make this cat beat you with his arm and not his legs.
We played double safety 15 yards off the ball, I thought we were playing against Tom Brady.

I didn’t keep track of it but early on there was a 3rd and long with two safeties about 20 yards off the ball. We also gave up a third and long on a handoff. We practically dared them to run in multiple situations where the defense had no intention or ability to stop the run.

I understand why teams do that, but this team gave way too much respect to their offense and gave them easy options to exploit.

What appears to be a bunch of lower level coaches working together for the first time isn’t such a good look. But it’s early, lol. Foster coached yesterday like he had a bottle of Jack riding on the game. Bronco is next.

The parallels between this defense and mark donofrios get more clearer each week

I think if all QB's have a weakness, its pressure. Get it in their face constantly and hopefully you have a LB or ST/S that can clean up spills whether it be man or zone. Since our LBs cant do their job in the zone, I'd rather them be doing something rather than hanging out in no man's land, just waiting for the QB to smoke them. Get them manned up with the RB or TE, or simply blitz a gap.

This Miami team bears no resemblance to the 2000 Canes

The one thing that has worked in recent years was Manny's aggressive 4-3 pressure D. So of course, we revert back to a soft, read and react defense. Mind boggling. Our staff is so quick to tout there numbers against the run, GTFOH. This team has not played aggressive or effectively when it really matters. Every single time this year we had to make a stop we have failed miserably. Worse, we've done it getting away from what we know actually works. Man I feel this program is snake bitten. Brital.
