Agree when new coaches come in you see who fits an doesnt for whatever reason we heard nothing good. Borderline 5* safety in a room with Day and Markeith Willams getting praise good riddance. I do hope we bring in a safety or 2. This situation is the same as horton both were 4th or 5th down the line upgrade we'll never miss em. I said that because back when Zaquan commited to us, ITU dropped a hit piece basically saying FSU portals over all of their HS signees and Miami is doing is the right way etc
They swore it played a huge role in him committing to us and then not even 2 years later, the kid has been portaled over and is transferring out…

Not big enough for linebacker and not athletic enough to have range as a safety. He looked lost and confused constantly. Was hoping new coaches could give him true teaching but oh well.

Kid was a 5* who SURELY cost a pretty penny in NIL. Didn't deliver, and was probably headed for a position change. And *maybe* not the most mature. All that taken into account, thinking $ didn't play a factor is naive.

With Poyser seemingly locked in to a spot and a bunch of capable guys for the nickel, Zaquan was probably battling for one open safety spot. And if you start hearing about Amari Wallace and Markeith making plays in the Spring (possibly Dylan Day as well) and you feel like you might be 3rd or lower on the depth chart, I can get why he got a little anxious and bounced. Especially Amari, you can’t get passed on the depth chart by someone in a younger class, the writing is usually on the wall. I’m not saying he was told his position on the depth chart, just that these days if you get the sense that a starting spot is not within your grasp it’s so easy to portal out.

Also from the team’s side - if a major blue chip recruit who is making big NIL money is not in the 2 deep by their 2nd season I can see them getting a bit of buyer’s remorse. That’s just the way it is these days, if you’re making the big bucks you need to produce as soon as possible.
