Ummm..I wouldnt count Malik in that class of buffons that was listed. Malik accomplished more in one season then our previous 4 UM QBs combined did in their careers. (Kaaya, Morris, Harris, Marve). And only speaking about Ws dont give a **** about stats.

Good post. He definitely missed WAY more then he hit. Yeah he can take credit for guys like Norton, McIntosh, MJack and a few others who were under the radar guys that many posters/other teams were not very high on but turned out to be good players for us.. But that list above is why we were a national joke during his entire tenure.

But in his VERY small defense..some guys on that list were pretty highly recruited. Golden was just horrible at development.

Jawand "Orange" Blue had VTech coaches in tears after he flipped to us late in the process. Grimble was a big time DT out of Vegas........****.......LOL.... Okay maybe I was wrong. Not as many as I thought! I take back what I said..

Can we get Golden's name censored out like a swear word? I'm still trying to forget those years.

This is impressively bad. My personal favorites are Michael Wyche, Gray Crow and Bar Milo, yikes

Yet somehow Golden got more players drafted than Shannon. Dear Lord, we were bad.

In hindsight, Al Golden did end up finding quite a few diamonds in the rough.. but he also littered our roster full of JAG's who had no business being here. Much rather recruit a team full of high floor's then the boom or bust approach.

I think that was more a product of many top end players simply not believing in him, so he settled for a lot of backup plans. Especially on the D side. If I were a top notch DT, I wouldn't have wanted to play for Coach No D. By playing the D they played, it ran off recruits.

That being said, they certainly settled too quickly on average players. If GOOD defenders won't come play for you, maybe you need to look in the mirror and ask why. They never would. Instead, they kept trying to pound square pegs into round holes.

I remember the boards went nuts when we took both their commitments. Moss is probably going to be a day 2 pick after this season and Wiggins looks like a stud during his RS Freshman year at Cincy.

Golden is the worst gameday coach we have had but cant deny he had an eye for talent.

Can’t deny that he could smell
Out kickers like Willie Taggart sniffs our ***gotry

We have a lot of guys in the NFL from the Shannon/Golden years. There was enough talent to win the fricking ACC Coastal, or at least win 9-10 games a year. That said, most are career backups. And how many pro bowlers do we have from the 2007 to 2015 classes? Meanwhile, how many So FL pros from that same decade are in the NFl playing at a higher level? Those two coaches put together team that were shells of the Johnson/Erickson/Davis years.

The last worry we have right now is RB. Could use another good DB. But let's not kid ourselves. There are a lot of better So FL DBs out there we missed out on under Shannon/Golden, and are still missing out on today.
