Looks like he’s making a move inside at least for now. Coach baker mentioned how he’s working with and meeting with the inside linebackers instead of the outside linebackers. Looks like the staff is getting rid of that position for the striker permanently. Baker said “he’s learning a new position” meaning he’s probably going to Back up Shaq as the mike.

You're saying getting rid of McCloud as a striker, or getting rid of the striker as a whole? I hadn't heard a blip about them abandoning the striker all together. In fact, I've been hearing a lot about it.

Been saying we should do this! With all the spread there is in the ACC. He's a liability matching up on slot receivers put him inside.

So with what seems to be a permanent move to move maccloud inside it seems like the striker has taken over as a permanent position. Since we only have 1 scholarship dude there after this year in Frierson it makes sense the staff is bringing in both Branch and Washington.

How hard is it to play two LB positions? AKA, could McCloud realistically back up both Shaq and Pinck and be the first sub in for both of them? Seems to me there would be more than enough minutes for him that way, and then we've got our three experienced guys still playing more or less as a unit, and playing a little bit interchangeably. I'm seriously asking as LB is just not a position that I know well enough as far as how different the assignments are.

Realistically, Zach isn't going to red-shirt this year just to wait for guys to graduate and hopefully earn a starting spot next year. We need to find ways to utilize him now to maximize his potential, utility to the team, and to demonstrate to scouts what he does best.

Baker ran a similar scheme to diaz but he used a 4-2-5 at la tech. I thought these exact moves would happen.

In this defense the mike and will are basically the same. Mike smith was the backup for both shaq and mike last year. They can always put zach back at sam vs bigger run first type teams.

hope he doesn't transfer after spring. Not sure if he already has or is graduating this summer.

Especially given that he could play in 4 games and still shirt. Save him for the key games unless someone is injured.................

This probably should be the plan considering the lack of LB recruits the last few cycles.

I wouldn't be against Diaz pulling a "Daryl Jones in 2000" and redshirting McCloud and grooming him to take over for Shaq next year at MLB. Butch redshirting Daryl that year and ensuring we had veteran leadership in the WR corp in 2001 was another one of his genius moves.
