Curious where you guys see the incoming freshmen fitting in, as far as their roles on the team for 2018. Here's mine:

QB
Williams - Redshirt

RB
Lingard - 2nd string RB and starting KR, ends the season running for more yards than Homer
Davis - 4th string RB, backup KR and plays on all ST

WR
Pope - Rotates with Harley at slot WR, starting PR
Hightower - 2nd string behind Richards
Ezzard - Competes with Cager for 2nd string behind Thomas
Wiggins - Redshirt

TE
Jordan - Day 1 starter
Mallory - Used as a flex TE only, playing time increases as the season goes on

OL
Scaife - Starts at either RT or RG, depending on where he and Donaldson better work together
Reed - 2nd string LG (as long as he shows up in shape)
Campbell - Redshirt
*Boulware - Starts at LG

DE
Rousseau - 3rd string WDE, hopefully blocks a couple of FG

DT
Silvera - Part of the DT rotation, plays at both 3 tech and 1 tech
Miller - Plays sparingly at 3 tech, like Ford last year
*Tito - Part of the DT rotation, plays a similar # of snaps to Moten

LB
Joyner - 3rd String WLB

CB
Frierson - Starts at CB opposite Jackson (I think he beats out Dean here, especially since he's an EE), backup PR
Ivey - 2nd string CB behind Jackson
Blades - 3rd string CB, key ST player and gunner on punts
Bethel - Plays on ST only

S
Hall - Part of the rotation, also on the field on nickel/dime sets. Regardless of where he lines up, he'll play a lot. Key ST player too

K
Baxa - kicks

Not to be that guy, but there are a few holes in these projections as it relates to the DT position. First, Nesta is a 3 technique. In fact, Kool recently called Nesta the "ideal" 3 technique for our style defense, even more so than McIntosh (btw, he shocked me with the statement about McIntosh). Richt also added to that by saying that "Nesta is the best 3 technique in Florida."

Secondly, Miller is and will be a 1 technique, so will Ford.

Yeah, that was just a slip up with Miller, don't know why I put him as a 3 tech.

I agree on Silvera that he's a 3 tech, but him and Willis are our two most talented DTs so I could see Kool wanting to get them both on the field at the same time, perhaps on passing downs

I, as well, can see the passing down situation playing out with both Nesta and Willis being on the field at the same time. However, based on Kool's history, he normally slides in a third DE to play DT in those situations, similar with how Thomas would move inside, while Toolbox and Joe Jackson manned the DE position.

You think Nesta, a true freshman, beats out Bethel to back up Willis at 3-Tech?
Not so sure about that.

Rousseau I read put on some serious weight already. Dude will be a day 1 contributor. Kinda surprised.

I think Bethel plays mainly SDE given how bad our depth is there, unless we add a grad transfer. Shaq's dad, iirc, said Bethel was looking slimmer than last Fall, so perhaps that's a sign

Bethel is a dt and has only been spoken as a dt by Diaz and kul. Not playing anywhere else.

Nesta is a lock for 2nd string behind Willis. He is a better DT than Bethel. Bethel is going to start at SDE there is no other alternative for this team next season.

Got to remember we are losing relatively few starters, so there wont be a huge number of minutes up for grabs except for a few spots specifically, and those are the toughest ones to play as a true freshmans (trenches). And before anyone says it, just because I don't think a guy gets a ton (or any) burn as a true frosh isn't me saying he is trash.

Here is what I expect, broken into several somewhat distinguishable tiers. This is based on pre spring ball, and assuming total team health the whole year (obviously not happening):

Group 1) High likelihood of Redshirt:
Williams
Davis
Wiggins
Joyner
Bethel

Group 2) Possible minor contributor, but decent chance of redshirt:
Ezzard
Mallory
Campbell
Rousseau (would be group 1 if our depth prevents that)
Blades
Miller (would be group 1 but depth prevents that)

Group 3)Highly likely to burn redshirt, good chance to be a minor contributor:
Pope
Hightower
Reed
Silvera (should be group 2 but depth prevents that)
Frierson
Ivy
Hall

Group 4) Somewhat impactful, with the possibility of major playing time:
Jordan - I really hate to do this in general, but ill call him the best TE on the roster already
Lingard - Wouldn't be surprised if he ends the season with the second most carries and a comparable yardage total to Homer
Scaife - Seems talented enough to jump some of the vets for serious PT.
Baxa - If he is the only scholarship kicker, he is getting reps by default
George - by nature of the position, I expect the Realus to be a four year starter

THere has been zero talk of bethel playing anything but d end and has, since signing day, been talked about by richt, Diaz and kul specifically as a dt.

Non of the names u listed in groups 2 and 1 are redshirting besides Williams and Wiggins. The rest are going to get there share of playing time whether it's lined up at their respective positions, on special teams, or combination of both.

Everyone you mentioned in groups 3 have a great chance of being major contributors, redshirt was never an option to "burn." And lol at your take on Silvera to further cement how terrible your post is.

Supposedly the new rules should be voted in for this season which lets any player play in any 4 games and retain his shirt. There will be a lot more red shirts.
