You Negative Ninnies

Thrilled about McClain.

Program wise, concerned, and feel this may be the underlying sentiment of many - trail success won't be sustained without on-field success. And even taking cultural/transitional issues into account, my enthusiasm regarding the program's long-term success with Cristobal at the helm have been tempered.

Hoping that all this recruiting buzz lights a fire under these current players’ a$$es. No one’s job should be safe next year, these cats coming in Can start from day 1. I trust Mario to make wholesale changes to the staff in the off-season, but who he replaces them with will ultimately dictate our success in 2023.

In the meantime, the current players (in particular the sophomores and juniors out there) are auditioning for next year. Some won’t be back on this team, some need to show they’re worth staying on and competing for the two-deep.

One thing is for sure - Mario isn’t Mr. Nice Guy. He’ll call a spade a spade.

Hopefully, 5 years from now we're all laughing about this season and listening to the gator's optimism about the new G5 coach they hired while saying, "Sure we lost to Bethune Cookman, but Mario lost to MTSU in his first season."
If we’re good in 5 years some ******* will be digging up posts and saying posters who were critical of mario in 2022 aren’t real fans

Correct. My only rebuttal is what is all the criticism really achieving? I know it feels therapeutic to vent but realistically it does no good (in excess). This thing is going to take a while & Mario isn't going anywhere. Might as well give it time. (what other choice is there?!)
Without the criticism we don’t have a web site.

Look at all the mutual *********ion going on with the Mope Squad, as they try to re-spin all their mopery as "principled criticism"...

Even though they spew all their "principled criticism" on every ******* thread, including the thread about a former player selling his successful business for millions. "But MTSU, bro!"

This is truth. But there is a distinction between being critical about the product on the field and raising the flag of concern over changes that need to be made moving forward, and making long-term predictions about UM's (and Mario's) failure and imagined consequences based on that limited sample of games (at the halfway point of season 1). Nobody in the first group deserves to be dragged or their fandom called into doubt. The people in the second group... I won't vouch for those a$$holes.

I despise threads like this and usually lock & delete them. I'll let this one continue as other Maudes have kept it from getting stupid.

Its one thing to mention the naysayers but to start a thread just to call out a portion of the fanbase simply because you have the most immediate win of the moment is worthless to the overall discussion of Hurricanes football.

You make a fair point.

I would just like to see equally zealous Mauderation when the Mopes destroy every other slightly positive thread ("Colbie Young had a great game"/"Darryl Sharpton just made millions selling his business") with their "but MTSU" nonsense.

Fair is fair.

If you can't support the team while they go through growing pains and all you can do is whine about "You were right,we should have hired someone else" Please kindly leave your fandom at the door on your way out. And don't let it hit you in the rear. You may as well be Gators or Noles.

I don't care your reasons, or what you "THINK" you need to shut your pieholes, and get in line to support the man who IS our coach, who is a part of oUr history and legacy. No, things don't look great right now. But it is always darkest before the light. We have been pretty stinking mediocre since 2002, less one shining season in 2017. Things have to change and sometimes that is gonna hurt at first. Deal with it. If you can't, that's just tough.

Couldn't keep it bottled up any longer? Maybe had one too many mimosas this morning? Looks like someone actually cares what others think about Mario. I hope you feel better now that you got this out.

These people don't have anything else better to do. Finally get some good news thrown our way and certain people have to spin it as a negative.

Never a fan of the underlying sentiment in the OP that you cannot be both supportive yet objective or critical.

You are right. But there is a point where some of the criticism goes from constructive to destructive. And at that point, criticism becomes riddled with emotion and loses its objectivity. A balanced approach is best, but it's never easy on topics in which we are emotionally invested.

No reason to be negative bc the product on the field would’ve been below expectations this season regardless of who the HC is and regardless of the type of system they ran.

Mario is the right man for the job… understand the process and enjoy the ride :backyard-pool:

"Growing pains" you say? Per Google: Growing pains often get better on their own within a year or two.

2022 - 2001 = 21 years
