you get what you pay for

So we continue to finish in the middle of the pack as far as the ACC is concerned...You get what you pay for....

Been saying this for years, especially to all the "fire everyone" hot heads. Its great to demand all these top notch coaches, but the reality is its a crap shoot. UM is a small private university that cannot pay 5 million a year to an HC, and millions more for top name coordinators and assistants.

The people screaming for Dan Mullen (LULZ), and all these other big names don't seem to get that those coaches are NOT going to come to Miami. For what? A pay cut?

If/when we fire Golden, its going to be ANOTHER crapshoot. UM simply cannot go after the "sure thing" type HC. That's the reality of our situation.

Not to derail, but quite a few on here can think of a "sure thing" sitting on the outside right now that would probably come for half of what AG makes...

No argument about willing to pay top dollar. However, bringing someone in at a similar price with risk can't be any worse than our current guy we have there.

Would someone mind telling me how the authors of that article can proclaim that number as fact? How would they know how much his salary is?

They can't. Al Golden decided to sign a 10 yr extension or whatever that made him the 42nd highest paid coach in the land. Makes total sense.

It is what it is. Golden is:
a good recruiter
a good fundraiser
a good face for the program
a good player developer
and an average to below average gameday coach as of now.

To me, he sounds a lot like Butch, but is not as good at recruiting and a nicer, better face for the program.

LOL you laugh all you want moron, but let's review who has gotten better this year:
Walford
Perryman
Grace
Chickillo
Bush
Armbrister
Dorsett
Duke
Kirby
McCord
Flowers
McDermott
Burns
A. Crawford

All of these guys are much more complete and consistent players which is how we went from 41-14 to 30-26 with many missed opportunities in one year.

Golden is a good, not great recruiter. Look at his top 15 classes under the infamous "cloud."

Golden is a great face for our program in building back inroads at local high schools in the community that Radio butchered. His camps and other programs are great too! He has raised a lot of money too which is allowing us to upgrade our facilities. He is a great rhetorician and we all know this.

Butch Davis is a snake who recruited against Miami at SEAN TAYLOR's FUNERAL. He took part in the UNC scandal and can't get a job. He had one great year here and built a great team, but lost a ton of games during his tenure here and at UNC.

That's BS.

The ACC alone, cut checks in 2013 to teams, and Miami alone got $20,900,000.

That's just ACC revenues. Free money. Didn't cost the University a damned thing. That tells me that they can get whoever they decide to get, and can easily double that salary for a top coach, and NEVER dip into University funds.

The marginal rate of return for an upper tier coach would certainly be worth the additional 2-3 mil per year spent. But, it seems we don't have business minded people at the helm at Miami.
