Year 3 (Miami 2024 vs Miami 2021)

It's more of an indictment of how little the guys from 2021 produced outside of the QBs and WRs. Mauigoa and Bissainthe are better than all of the guys we trotted out from the 2021 team. Manny signs the higher ranked Chaney and Rooster over Parrish, Parrish transfers in and takes all their snaps.
I would like to see a larger gap. I think you have to squint to see the difference versus it being obvious.

The two most glaring differences are OL and Linebacker. Everyone knew at the time in 2021 that Manny's evals were busts at those two positions. We didn't know it at the time, but WR and DE were two other position groups we struck out on from an eval perspective.

Looking at the Mario roster, I don't see a positions group where we know they're busts. LB, WR and S are still TBD. Overall dramatically better outcomes even if the average ratings are similar.

it's too small of a sample size for both really

the talent gap of where we were and we're going to be will continue to grow over the next few cycles as Mario and staff become more cemented. obviously a 10 win season will help that dramatically

*Ranked higher*, it's too early to say anything is better outside of OL.
Very fair statement, although considering how awful some groups turned out to be (WR, Edge, LB), I can't see how the youngun's could do any worse - it's not possible. The 2021 WRs were dreadful. Chantz got demoted and stayed demoted, Harvey was ok/serviceable, Ishmail??? Insert Moby **** comment here. The 2021 LBs are laughable, if you can make it through the initial urge to cry.

Do you think it can't happen in 3 years?

I don’t think it can happen in 3yrs sustainably, no.

The big bodies in the trenches take time to mature. This is Cristobal’s third class coming up and the results in the trenches, RB, LB, and WR are quite good.

If you want to die on a hill of “Cristobal sucks at x”; talent acquisition and roster building is not one for them.

We have more questions than answers. We are depending on players that haven't proven anything at multiple positions. I will die on the you can upgrade a roster faster than 3 years hill.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. The player development and coaching has been terrible here. With the talent we get yearly, we should be winning 10 games with ease.

You don't think the roster has been upgraded since 2021?

QB: 2024
RB: 2024
OL: 2024
WR: Push right now. Need a WR1 from the portal
TE: 2021 even though Mallory couldn't block worth a ****

3-1-1 to 2024

DE: 2024
LB: 2024
DT: 2021 because Silvera+Ford were better than JHH+Clark, but it's really close
CB: Push
S: Push

2-1-2 to 2024

Total 5-2-3. In my mind, it's not even close. Will be even more tilted to 2024 if we land a WR1 and DB1 and those two pushes move to the 2024 column.

At no point did I say that.

More then anything, it shows these ranking systems are straight garbage. So many “highly” ranked players that were garbage here and then garbage elsewhere.

The following is a side-by-side roster comparison of current roster for the Miami Hurricanes in 2024 versus 2021.

Names in green denote incoming players in their first year in their respective teams:

AVERAGE COLLEGE EXPERIENCE
  • 2024: 1.80 years
  • 2021: 1.78 years
AVERAGE 247 RATING
  • 2024: 0.9003
  • 2021: 0.8916
2024 MIAMI POSITION ADVANTAGES (RATING)
  • Wide Receiver 2024 Miami .9243, 2021 Miami .9102
  • Tight End 2024 Miami .9088, 2021 Miami .8913
  • Running Back 2024 Miami .9088, 2021 Miami .8928 (Michael Parrott as converted walk-on is throwing down 2021 avg, w/o him 2021 Miami is higher)
  • Defensive Tackle 2024 Miami .9050, 2021 Miami .9046
  • Defensive End 2024 Miami .9287, 2021 Miami .8967
  • Linebacker 2024 Miami .9154, 2021 Miami .8672

  • Safety 2021 Miami .9204, 2024 Miami .8916
  • Special Teams 2021 Miami .7813, 2024 Miami .7789

NOTES
  • 2024 Miami is carrying a combined total of twenty defensive ends and tackles. In 2021 it was just 13.
  • 2021 Miami carried a high number of linebackers at 13.
  • At a position level, 2024 Miami has the CFB experience edge with wide receivers, tight ends, running backs, and quarterbacks. Although Cam is throwing the average up, even if he is excluded the tight end room fields more experience.
  • 2021 Miami had more CFB experience at every defensive group, as well as with offensive linemen

This isn’t apples to apples yet.
We have Manny’s player data through the ‘21 season (and beyond) of all the ”green…incoming players” through the 21 season.
There is no data on the “0” year Mario players in the ‘24 season.

Mario’s WR room looks better, but Ny and JoJo haven’t played a snap yet. Do I think so? Yes, but we’ll see.
Flip side…if we didn’t know what we know about Jake Garcia, Manny’s QB’s (on paper) would be considered better.

EDIT: Appreciate the work @GojiraCane

D'Eriq King to Charleston Rambo was the difference between that fugazi 8-3 and a 3-8 season in 2020.

42-17 against Clemson and 62-26 against North Carolina defined that squad.

Saw it unfold in real time in 2021; King eaten alive by Bama and the team 2-4 before anyone blinked and Tyler Van Bust was in there to chuck it around pressure-less in games against North Carolina State and Pittsburgh—which started the hype train on that bozo—banged up in 2022 and never recovered in 2023 when the pressure was on (different world at 4-0 instead of 2-4).

Miami actually has an o-line this year. Let's see what that does for Ward and the ground game. Defensive side of the ball feels overall better than 2021, albeit still a lot of young unproven guys and some holes.

Randy Shannon had that beat in 2008. He fielded a team that had 14 linebackers, including nine true freshmen.

That's a ridiculous amount of oversigning at one position.

How about his over-signing at wide receiver as well?

Tommy Streeter, Travis Benjamin, Davon Johnson, Aldarius Johnson, LaRon Byrd, Thearon Collier and Kendall Thompkins all in that 2008 class.

Not surprised that the numbers are similar. We are banking on evaluations being better. We aren't turning into Georgia or Alabama like some want to believe.
Look at the highly ranked players from 2021. How many of them were high impact players? Now look at the highly ranked players from last year years class. Seems to me that the evaluations are hitting. *takes another sip of kool-aid*
