NOTES
  • As with the 2009 team comparison, an item that immediately stands out is how thin 2013 was. Depth was fraught, with only 75 scholarship players on the team due to year over year attrition and self sanctioning. Defensive tackle featured an almost unbelievably low four players, while wide receiver stood at just seven (an additional wide receiver recruited in 2013 did not end up on the team).
  • 2013 Miami was an extremely young at safety, which had average experience of just 0.7 years
  • The 2024 Canes have 21 transfer players on their roster. 2013's team had two transfers
  • The 2013 Canes recruiting class had an average ranking for true freshmen of .8667. The 2024 Canes incoming freshmen average .9086

Just shows how rankings don't tell you everything. Looking at some of those 2013 players with ratings > 0.93

Thank you for the list. It is much appreciated.

Being that McCormick is such a freakish outlier for experience, what is the average experience for the 2024 team if you take him off the list?

We back or nah
We're better, and getting better year over year.

I thought the Year 3 comparisons were interesting because in 2009 and 2013 both teams got off to strong starts (5-1 and ranked in the Top 10 in 2009, 7-0 and ranked in the Top 10 in 2013). This team should be much stronger than either with considerably more depth.

I’m going to add further to this:

2013-14 Miami Hurricanes
Record: 9-4
Leading Passer: Stephen Morris (3,028 yrds 21 TDs 12 ints)
Leading Rusher: Duke Johnson (920 yrds {6.3 ypc} 6 TDs)
Leading Receiver: Allen Hurns (1,162 yrds {18.7 ypr} 6 TDs)
Leading Tackler: Denzel Perryman (108 Tkls - 1 FF)
Leading Interceptions: Tracy Howard (4)
Leading Sacks: Tyriq McCord (4)
Record vs. Top 25: 1-2
Record vs. Teams That Finished w/ Winning Record: 3-3
Record vs. ACC: 5-3
Combined Record of opponents: 84-81
Total Offense Rank: 48th
Total Defense Rank: 89th

With the above mentioned roster data + the 2013 season data, I’ll stand by what I said: Zero excuses not to win 10+ games this yr.

We’ll field a better QB, better OL, better Def, better WR Room, & we’ll face 3 New HC (FAMU, Duke, Syracuse).

Wow, the lack of depth is what really stands out when comparing the 2013 team to the current roster. Our front line guys were good(Duke,Hurns), but you were really walking a very thin line when it came to injuries, etc.
