Yeah our defense was horrible...NOT

You just bait and switched. Round and Round we go...

Lol....but yes, an offense that gets 6 first downs THE ENTIRE GAME is completely blameless for those 333 yards. They might as well play offense, defense, and special teams in 3 different stadiums.

So according to you we should blame the Defense for allowing 333 yards and not putting the Offense in a good position to score

No it isn't. Your homerism blinds you to the fact our D looked very good to great against terrible teams
LSU, BC, FSU for 3 quarters, Wis repeatedly gashed the D the entire length of field, sometimes on opening drives.
Yes, the putrid O and special teams often put the D in terrible positions, so they get a "good" grade, because they often came through.
But not against good to half decent O's
Look at my post on Pitt gashing us on ground in '86. Our '86 team had great talent on both sides of ball. Craig "Ironhead" Heyward ran all over us.

Yet it was largely ineffectual because our passing attack put up a lot of points.

If we had an effective offense, perhaps we could have forced Wisconsin to try to beat us through the air. Much rather have them try to beat us with the backup QB Coan than with Taylor.

when you are constantly on the field and are gassed because your offense keeps going 3 and out and leaves to defend 40 yards of the field. Its pretty obvious these factors were huge in our defense performance, for you not to consider it shows how short minded you are.

Well if the Defense wasnt giving up 333 yards and 7 yds per carry to a team that is playing a backup QB. Mind you they did this last year to dIAZ D. You can blame the O all you want but its the same pattern that he had at UT/MSU. Beat up on shltty teams and make the stats look good.

Lol....but yes, an offense that gets 6 first downs THE ENTIRE GAME is completely blameless for those 333 yards. If a defense eventually quits, gets tired, or are uninspired,...it's all on the defensive coordinator.

They might as well play offense, defense, and special teams in 3 different stadiums. This sh** isin't even worth arguing after a certain point...

Let’s blame the offense for everything just so we can protect our boy Manny. Sure the offense was pitiful but this wasn’t a NC defense not by a long shot. You guys are hopeless do you blame Manny for anything or is he infallible?

LSU 20 at half
BC 17 at half
Wisconsin 35 points, 300+ rushing
GT 27 points

Sorry we didnt face FIU every game

Against these "elite" offenses the defense gave up 29.25 PPG

All of these stats are very true...

Very true offensive stats for same games:

LSU-1st half-29 plays, 124 yards (1 55 yd drive), 3 points, int return for a TD, punts of 20, 34,22 yards...offense outscored itself 7-3,

BC- 1st half-39 plays, 166 yards (2 drives totaled 16 plays, 108 yards), punts- 32, 36, 44, halftime score 17-14, points following turnovers-10

Wisconsin- entire game- 41 plays, 164 yards (1 76 yard drive), 5 turnovers, punts-37, 43, 47, 40, 39, Wisconsin yards at halftime total -203, 21 points following turnovers

GT- whole game- 53 plays, 255 yds (2 drives-26 plays, 170 yards), punts- 32, 33, 35, 13 points following turnovers

Numbers dont lie. People do.

You tards act like other defenses don't have worse numbers against better offenses also.

What is this fascination with yards?

PPG is what matters

Those stats were our offense's stats...along with the points allowed by our defense following turnovers by our offense, not obsessed with yards but typically if a team has 14 points off of 72 yards then it shows they are starting in plus territory majority off the time...additionally, if one team has zero offense and cannot sustain drives then the defense will fatigue over time or will become discouraged because they understand that any points given up will automatically translate to a loss...(btw you quoted wisconsin's yardage)

One game with are starting dt and de hurt 🤔🤔🤔

I'm honestly surprised the defense never went on a strike mid game the way our offense played most of the time. People seem to forget that this defense held Wisconsin scoreless for almost 40 game time minutes from 1st to 3rd quarter while our offense couldn't even get to opposite side of the field.

Jez, FSU and VT in the middle of losing years and Pitt, a murderers row of high octane offenses. Line us up against any team in the top 10 (and it doesn't matter what scheme they run), then they make us look like Duke. Oh, wait...

The only one ranked on that list is LSU and they took their foot off the gas in the second half. (They had 220 of their 300 yards in the first half.)

We have a good defense that can compete against the lower tier ranked teams. And that may be good enough for some you to win the Coastal every few years. But line us up against Bama, Clem, OSU and teams of that ilk, and the results won't be pretty.

The book on Diaz is he runs a gimmicky defense, that can overwhelm teams that are out-talented or unprepared, but performs inconsistently against evenly matched, well-coached teams.

But then against, we can always schedule Savannah State.

We're pretty good on D.
Don't know what to say to you.
What I showed you were relative yardages.

But then again, you can always drool over a Bama team that gave up 27 ppg vs the 5 teams they played with an offensive pulse.

Your throw-out last comments seem familiar.
Is this Piccolo?

I don’t get the concept of how you blame the offense when a below average Wisky team rushes for 333 yards?

That's one game.
The whole team stunk.

Let's take the rushing stats vs LSU.
We held them to 3.8 ypc.
I’m sure Manny’s defense would scare the dog **** out of Tua and Kyler Murray..

Man, once they got rolling, Bama's D didn't scare them either.

Speaking of Bama, you think the great defenses of Bama and Clemson are going to give up 40 or so again in the Natty?

Having the worst special teams & offense in the nation normally would destroy a defense. It didn’t. If Manny hires a GREAT OC I believe this can work. Regardless he’s an upgrade over Richt. Very lazy UM hire but an upgrade none the less.
Maybe not lazy. Maybe shrewd and calculating. Blake might have seen internal dynamics of the football program and knew that, with a great defense which we already have, fixing the offense would put us at elite level. I think they realized that with Manny we might have one of the great young coaches in football.

Maybe. We'll see.

I'm not unhappy at all with selection. I've been fooled/disappointed before with coaching hires, however.

I try to stay positive and optimistic.

Our defense was great this year -- not taking anything away from them. But we know for a fact with Richt walking away for free and Diaz most likely taking a paycut compared to what Richt was making we can afford EXPONENTIALLY BETTER on the defensive staff. Namely at DC but also at CB coach.

If Banda and Patke refuse to take a demotion, fire their asses along with Rumph and bring in virtually a whole new defensive staff.
