Yeah our defense was horrible...NOT

Sorry we didnt face FIU every game

Against these "elite" offenses the defense gave up 29.25 PPG
You simpleton, do you realize defense is predicated on the offense doing something with the football. Either scoring heavily or consuming lots of clock to give them adequate rest. Our offense did neither. Hence our defense had to buckle eventually. If this offense was capable of scoring 28+ points per game (in todays CFB, thats pretty run of the mill), then our defense would of been even better, and record overall would of been better.

Both parties are looking at this as black and white.

This **** is fluid people. In the games where we gave up big points we were handicapped by our crap offense and the #2 ranking was sunshine pumped by trash opponents.

dThe defense was championship level in terms of yards per play and yards per drive. The only reason we beat FSU, VT, and Pitt were because of the defense. End of story.

Jez, FSU and VT in the middle of losing years and Pitt, a murderers row of high octane offenses. Line us up against any team in the top 10 (and it doesn't matter what scheme they run), then they make us look like Duke. Oh, wait...
Yardage allowed vs P5 teams:

Team.... ypg/vs Miami Net
LSU............389/296 ... -93
UNC...........442/329... -113
FSU............361/200... -161
UVA...........384/231... -153
BC...............433/404... +29
Duke..........405/290... -115
GT...............408/303... -105
VT...............427/335... -92
Pitt..............371/200... -171
UW..............431/406... -25

We held the 10 p5 teams we played to nearly 1,000 yards (999) below their season average, or 100 ypg.
BC was the only team to exceed their ypg average.

The only one ranked on that list is LSU and they took their foot off the gas in the second half. (They had 220 of their 300 yards in the first half.)

We have a good defense that can compete against the lower tier ranked teams. And that may be good enough for some of you to win the Coastal every few years. But line us up against Bama, Clem, OSU and teams of that ilk, and the results won't be pretty.

The book on Diaz is he runs a gimmicky defense, that can overwhelm teams that are out-talented or unprepared, but performs inconsistently against evenly matched, well-coached teams.

But then again, we can always schedule Savannah State.

You know what all these games have in common? Our D was on the field for 40 minutes of a 60 minute game
Wisconsin running it down our throat first series of the game is on the offense?
BC runnig it down our throat fist two drives of the game is on the offense?
GT scoring on their first drive of the game AFTER we went up 7-0 is on the offense?
youbgoing for cool points? BC and LSU has multiple drives starting within 40 yards of scoring.

LSU and GT had 2 or more Turnovers committed by us

Our D was on the field for 40 minutes of a 60 minute game vs. Wisky. Our offense was so bad that the Badgers O essentially played a 5th quarter with our D.

Actually watch some football instead of point watching.

Weird how people realize the defense's failures were evident....

...but cant seem to realize that this isint Tecmo Bowl and this defense is affected by Special Teams and the Offense's production,....which was abysmal game in, game out.

You can just tell some posters simply haven't ever competed in team sports and just dont get this simple topic,...no matter how many times you explain it.

Wisky torched us on the first drive. But we actually held our own repeatedly against them even when giving them amazing field position with our 5 TURNOVERS AND 6 FIRST DOWNS ON OFFENSE.

You're the type of dude to deny climate change because it still snows at your house during winter.

Against the 4 best offenses we faced this year the defense gave up average of 29.25 PPG

And people defend this

And how many were given up because the ball was on the other side of the 50?(See GT, BC and LSU). Also GT and BC scored on their turnovers as well.

Manny isn't the DC any more, Cheech and Chong currently are. We need waaay more than a great OC (not that you're saying that's all we need)

I mean he’s not but he is. He’s still going to make the adjustments & oversee it obviously.

I’m sure Manny’s defense would scare the dog **** out of Tua and Kyler Murray..

It wouldnt because they'd know **** well that our STs and Offense is **** and we have no shot at winning if they just keep playing.

You still dont get that concept do you?

Those terrible punts had a lot to do with LSU scoring 20 by halftime. You can't blame Diaz for the picks by Wisconsin. The Cane defense was forced to spend too much time on the field because of a lame offense.

Dislike Manny the HC, but his defense here was really good. Perhaps a tad overrated? Perhaps underrated also considering everything.

So if the offense couldnt move the ball how do you give up 333 rushing yards.....333

Totally guzzling here -

the defense had given the F-up at that point. Diaz was 'gone,' Mork still at helm with no changes in sight, crootin totally tanked, Offense COMPLETE **** - giving up anything at the IDGAF bowl is understandable.

That Manny's defense got gashed by pulsed teams otherwise IS of concern....

This. Our defense was good, but overrated. Any offense with a pulse ran all over us.
Actually any team with a pulse our O and special teams absolutely crumbled against. This put our D on the field for way too long, and with way too many short fields. Give an opposing offense twice as many opportunities to score, and they'll score twice as many points.

We werent the second best defense, second best defense doesnt get run on for 300 yards when the QB cant pass.. but Even Alabama got gashed by dam near every offense they played with a pulse.. Without A decent offense and special teams we have no idea what we really couldve been on defense but there is no denying that 3rd down conversion rate that is elite. ANything on 3rd and more then 3 yards we routinely smashed..thats coaching

Still dont like the hire

I don’t get the concept of how you blame the offense when a below average Wisky team rushes for 333 yards?
