Xs and Os- Major Applewhite

Ward was suspect down the field , hence why all the shirt intermediate throws. That’s what good coaches do.

There’s a reason dude had suck a nice comp %

From what I can see looking at one YouTube video, this guy Ward's arm, in terms of throwing downfield, makes Malik arm look like a cannon by comparison. I can see why he didn't want him throwing downfield much. At least he seemed to find other ways to stress the defense, without a credible downfield threat.

Their disdain was misguided just as this boards usually is

Half this board hated Rumph and diaz all last year when offense was the problem

Houston had a problem in NO-D. They could have given applewhite another year and he would have fired No-D regardless but Houston knew that Dana wanted to leave West Virginia so they fired him

Lateral passes and screens to our playmakers is something that was a staple during the Dennis Erickson years. From Randall Hill to Kevin Williams to Jonathan Harris and Jammi German. Bring that back please.

Richt did it too, in the App St. game and somewhat against GT last year. Then, it disappeared.

that's because as a hc he lost. not because of his offense but because he made the idiotic move of hiring coach no d as he d coordinator. of course they wanted him gone but not for his offense

I think he's one of the few coaches that really uses his offense to his personel. He used a lot of 11, 12, 22, 10 personel at texas with a lot of deep passing game. And at Hiuston he ran pretty much 10 personel the entire time. Depending on who is in at an is also dependent on what you'll get. Hes one of the few coaches I've seen who run zone blocking and gap blocking which is rough for a coordinator to defend. In total, I think he'll do well.

Let’s try and have a civilized discussion as to what we will see. I remember watching Houston with Ward at QB and being very impressed with that system but really don’t remember details.

What type of run/pass % can we expect?

Does he use tempo? If so is it 80 plays a game type tempo?

What type of formations does he use?

How often does he call deep shots?

I admire your optimism.

We should hire Brian Wright to push Applewhite schematically. Ohio State, Clemson both have a second innovator to push the first. We may not be able to pay 2 P5 level coordinator salaries like those schools, but I bet we could still afford a guy like Wright to serve that role.

U mean a Co-oc

To me the biggest upside to Applewhite is the x&o innovation and knowledge.

1) He's got the Texas offense as his base that went to 2 championships and won a Natty. That was a record setting attack back in the day and one of the first spread teams. That's a big plus.

2) He's got the Tom Herman attack that he developed at Iowa State and brought to OSU under Meyer. We all know it won a Natty and they are still using a version of it today. It's also doing pretty well at Texas right now. Georgia had a hard time with it.

3) This also means he's got knowledge of the Urban Meyer offense that also won two Natty's at Florida. Not bad.

4) He hired and coached with Briles last year. So he's got full knowledge of how Art Briles (Baylor) attacks a D. He will surely use some of Briles attack at Miami.

**** near everyone has been begging for a modern spread attack at Miami for years. As you can clearly see from the above, we've got it now. This guy has about the most innovative and modern attack in his ****nal in cfb today. The guy also knows how to call plays and be successful.

These south Florida kids are gonna love our attack next year.

I want a guy who creates their own playbook. Applewhite can be a competent professional OC, but he's not an offensive innovator. He has shown that he can work well with young innovative guys, so if this is the move we need to bring him a #2 that will push him in the direction Diaz wants.

this is why I say hire Ryan Silverfield as OL coach \running game coordinator he brings the Memphis playbook. An also hire Sean Gleason as a Sr offensive analyst he was the OC at Princeton an they led THE in scoring offense. Those additional coaches will have Apple white on his toes.

Go Canes
