Xavier Lucas

I thought the same thing but there is just so much value in winning the middle 8
True. I think I still want the ball second half.

Indiana won the coin toss against Oregon and opted to kick. If Indiana wins the toss and opts to receive against us, we’ll know why. I say that because I have zero faith the appeal is granted.

1. That specific call should be overturned.
2. The targeting ejection rule should be modified to the “lesser” unsportsmanlike rule. First is warning second is ejection. I’m okay with removing or keeping the extra half withhold if they move it to unsportsmanlike, either way. Maybe even make that referee discretion based on violence and intentionality.

Has to be appealed by the ACC. You have to think that’s happening.

I wouldn’t be super optimistic on success though - it was a BS call and totally not consistent with another identical call in the same game… but is that enough to invalidate it after that fact?
I think that would be the argument. Lack of consistency in the calls not just in that game but throughout the playoffs. There was no obvious launch with intent to spear. Lucas is going low leading with his shoulder to make a tackle and the receiver just happened to go lower. WTF is a defender supposed to do, not tackle him? At that it was a glancing blow. Compared to Toney who was a defenseless receiver and got absolutely hit 100% helmet to helmet but they explain it was just the defender running through making a tackle? WTF is that.

It was a bs call. He lead with shoulder , the wr dipped his head then the strike zone changed . It was close to the same one from earlier in the game . It’s like diving into a pool and being asked last second to not hit the water. They don’t even know what a target is. A violent shot leading with your crown to a defenseless player is a target . They need to alter the dumb rule and drop the ejection ( unless ) it’s blatant .

It doesn’t even make sense when compared to the NFL. How are “amateurs” (they get paid now but still) punished worse than professional nfl players?

Ejection/suspension should be addressed separately like the nfl. Most targeting would never warrant an ejection or suspension in the nfl.

So let me get this straight…the team gets an automatic first down….15 yards and eliminating that player for the rest of the game because of an unintentional act?

This needs to be corrected in the offseason. Of course we’ll get screwed and not have him and now the idiots because of our example will realize how harsh the rule is
Unless you’re ole miss or legit any of opponents for the past 15 years

Can’t imagine Miami couldn’t find hundreds of similar tackles from this season that weren’t called targeting. Will be utterly ridiculous if the suspension is upheld.

Meanwhile indiana guy did on helmet to helmet on oregon and nothing

Middle
I wonder if Lucas being out for the first half makes us want to receive the opening kickoff for there to be one less Indiana drive in the half.

Strategery.
Middle eight is too good to pass up. Would be nice to have Damari back.

Needs to be brought up that that Lucas is a player the Big Ten has beef with and that the Big Ten refs knew for a fact that Lucas missing the first half of the title game would be helping out a Big Ten team in the event Miami survived the sabotage.
That was my biggest gripe. Why did we get Big 10 refs when our opponent the next game was a Big 10 team? They had a direct impact on the next game, and not enough people are talking about that. There is a reason a school's own officiating crew can't call one of their playoff games. Now we all see why they should never have a role in determining who plays one of their teams.
