The St. Thomas Aquinas junior edge rusher had four tackles, a tackle for loss, a half sack and knocked down a pass in the Raiders' 29-0 win against Lakeland on Dec. 11 at Pitbull Stadium.
Smith's impact goes far beyond the official stats. He and fellow edge rusher Daniel Norman, an Oklahoma commit, consistently were in the backfield and caused havoc on Lakeland's passing game.
The 6-foot-6, 240-pound Smith came into the Class 5A state title game leading the Raiders with 110 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, 11 sacks and 30 quarterback hurries.
