With no AD, how do you know who the top 2 options are??? The new AD may have an entirely different opinion as to who would be a good fit here. This is why this AD search should have started last month!! Plenty of time to get a qualified candidate hired and make plans for the future of the football program. Instead, they pull on their pud and wait till there's 2 weeks left in the season. Total malpractice and mismanagement.

Julio Frenk and UM’s administration are the epitome of failed leadership.

They should have already had a new AD lined up and ready to hire when they fired Flake.

The coaching carousel isn’t going to wait for UM’s stupid leadership to finally hire an AD, ultimately decide on Manny and then hire a new HC.
 
The waiting wouldn't be so bad if they had a track record of making sound decisions. Snap decisions, well deliberated decisions, it hasn't mattered. They still find a way to completely botch it. They'd rather sit in a dark room stroking themselves over a 7 win season than to give up a little power and watch the real U return.

Because retaining from him has always been an option and if you've been following along, it seems to the be desirable option IF both Mario and Lane say no AND they can't find any other good options. With as many jobs as will come open this year, who will be left that's a clear and obvious upgrade, exactly? I know people will say "Anyone", I get it, I'm not arguing with you if that's your opinion, but the reason Manny isn't fired yet is because the admin is hedging against Mario & Lane saying no.

I'm sorry, but they've done NOTHING to get the benefit of ANY doubts. Every moment that passes with qualified people like Jurich out there just acts as a further reminder of the incompetence/apathy we're dealing with.

1. No guarantees in life. Mario may get a contract extension tomorrow or in a week or maybe an offer he can’t refuse from LSU etc.
2. It is not just about hiring the HC, that HC has to hire assistants as it is extremely rare for every assistant in a regime to pack up and move to the new job. As these coaches get hired faster they have time to grab the better assistants available. If we wait too long we will be employing Sisters of the Poor to coach our offense as Lashlee’s gone. A guy like Mario especially needs top notch assistants as he’s a gameday corch.
3. Recruiting. The faster we get a new coach in place the faster he can get to work with both High School and portal transfers. We have a **** ton of work to do to fix this team and cannot spare an too long.
4. The AD search should have been started two weeks ago, minimim.

You're assuming they haven't been talking to people via back channels since before James' firing was public. These things take time, even if it appears they're done quickly. Mario & Lane will be the top 2 options because everyone knows they're the desired options. Will a new AD want someone else? Possibly, but any good AD that comes in will know Mario checks off so many boxes for Miami right now, so if that AD wants someone else, they probably shouldn't get the job to begin with.

One of Likens/Justice will be convinced to stay & call plays. Cooney will catch a promotion. Banda will be brought back to be DC/DB’s when T-Rob inevitably leaves. Maybe Shoop becomes DC best case? Strawley to be full time AD.

I mean..it does seem stupid that the same crowd who had a problem with moving to quickly in 18 to find a coach..is the same crowd who wants the AD, a more important position and decision to be made in a hurry..
