It doesn’t count towards the 25 I think it counts toward the main roster like Cleveland Reed did.If that is the case I’d take a lineman, cornerback, and bring Hightower back if he wants back in just for numbers sake.

He would count towards a class, but I believe if he enrolls in the summer they could count him (or whomever) towards next year.

My guess is that they continuing recruiting the HS kids they really want and if they all come and fill up the spots available for this year then we evaluate how we look in Spring and then pick up some of these kids in Summer. It's too late for them to enroll for Spring anyway and there are likely to be more players available after Spring practices anyway so why not:

1) Keep spots for this year available fro kids that will be with you for several years (HS kids)
2) Evaluate what you have (maybe kids step up with another year, better coaching, different system) or maybe (knock on wood) someone gets hurt and we need depth at that position
3) See whom else becomes available.

We need to be careful though with who we are taking, we can't just waste spots on the Tommy Kennedys of the world since we are currently more impacted by the yearly cap than the overall roster cap and it hurts even more when you trade one of those spots for a 1 year rental.
 
We could use a WR of thick stature like Black. Our current crop is rail thin. @nystateofmind wouldn't you agree?

Hes a quality player and if we had more room it would make sense to add him but with 1-2 spots left we need to fill more glaring holes. We are dangerously thin at CB. And we obviously need to add an experienced OL.

Yup give me a LT or a CB. We seem to have no problem bringing in four highschool WR at a time, even with stubblebutt out there. We cant seem to get more than two corners or olinemen though.
 
We could probably use an upperclassman at WR but I’d prefer to use one of the remaining counters at a position of need. Besides, I think we can probably start counting Mallory as a WR now. Especially with the new offense that doesn’t use many multiple TE sets
 
The issue right now from a ceo mindset is that at receiver and offensive line, even though we’ve underachieved, we do have ‘decent’ numbers at both spots. 8 scholarship receivers plus 5 scholarship tight ends makes more than enough. Offensive line, same deal. We have to COACH THEM UP and quit looking for some flash in the pan transfer to change the world.

With that said, it’s the exact opposite at the corner position. We have talent at the position that has flashed and shown promise, BUT SCARY THIN DEPTH. You almost have to use those two spots on this position or you’re setting yourself for major failure.

Good point, with the tempo and 2 TE’s like we have I am sure they will be lined up all over the place! (at least I hope they are)
 
order of priority for the final 1 or possibly 2 spot(s):

1) OT
2) CB
3) OT or CB
4) CB or OT

We are fine everywhere else.
 
Black is a really talented WR....big, fast and good hands. Injuries have derailed his career.

Normally I would be all for a guy like him but the ICs are killing us. The benefit of Black over others is having 2 years of eligibility remaining. I’d still prefer a CB with our depth. This is maybe where a kid like Colson becomes more valuable with his position versatility.

agreed.

OT and CB are absolutely the priority.

actually, as starved as we are at the OT position, people don't realize how dire the CB room really is right now. Lashlee and Garin Justice will get better play from our OL, I can pretty much guarantee it. (****, it can't be worse).

but there is no place to hide a CB, particularly in today's game. if you're short there, then you are royally screwed. you'll get gashed, not only in the passing game, but against pretty much 80% of spread formations, CB's are going to be in both first and second run support. as opposed to a safety and/or a LB being that second spot.

if you're light on CB's that can both cover and tackle? it's ugly to watch.
