LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky football coach Mark Stoops is set to hire former Arkansas assistant Michael Smith to fill the wide receivers spot on his staff, a source with direct knowledge of the hiring process has informed Courier Journal.
Smith worked on Bret Bielema's staff at Arkansas from 2013 to 2017 but was not retained by new Arkansas coach Chad Morris. Smith previously worked with Stoops on his brother Mike's staff at Arizona during the 2007 and 2008 seasons.
Smith would replace former UK wide receivers coach Lamar Thomas, whose contract was not renewed earlier this month.
At Arkansas, Smith recruited Louisiana heavily. He is also credited with signing players from Texas, Arkansas, Florida, Kansas and Oklahoma as well as several junior colleges in the 247Sports database. As an assistant at Kansas State in 2012, Smith was named one of the top 10 recruiters in the Big 12 Conference by Rivals.com.

This might be a name to keep an eye on for Wide receiver coach.
