Penn State usually had solid defenses under Paterno. I can't imagine they ran this crap. Golden may not have picked it up until he was working for Al Groh. Remember, he was a tight end in college.

I'm blaming Penn State for the stubbornness, not for the scheme/defense. The scheme was probably picked up by Groh.

Greaseball said in an interview he learned his defense while at Virginia. I forget the Corch that he credited with being his defensive mentor, but it wasn't Groh or Slambuttsky. It was some grey beard at UVA.
 
At the end of the day it nevertheless falls on them. We know the scheme is ****ed up but even if it was not the scheme it is their job to teach our players how to run the scheme and execute in it. If they cannot do that with Juniors and Seniors they recruited and have coached on this team then that once again is poor coaching.

So which is it is what I would ask them. Either it is a bad scheme or bad coaching up of the players.
 
Miss tackles become less when you swarm....you know like old school cane D. Something foreign to No D and Golden.
 
No crystal ball? They threw it 13 times. Id say he had a pretty good idea what was coming and he still didn't do a thing about it

I would say it's both, the scheme doesn't work at this level. On top of that, they are putting the players in such bad position on the field that it doesn't allow them to make the play routinely without some superhuman effort. The assignments are so out of the ordinary for the linebackers, d-ends and d-backs that it appears no one can retain the concepts from play call to play call, even the guys that have been in this scheme for 3-4 years.
 
The issue is, these idiotic coaches think we are stupid and will accept any nonsense they tell us. Many former Canes are slamming D'Onofrio and Golden. Boosters have had it with them. We and the Press need to keep up the pressure and force Blake James to fire D'Onofrio, and hire a DC independently of Golden. Any new DC must be totally free to design his own Defense, and not that garbage scheme that Golden and D'Onofrio use. The DB coach also needs to be fired. Our players are regressing under his coaching.
 
I am willing to watch, at this point, UM, give up intermediate and long passes to change to a more attacking form, just to see it.. Come to think of it, has golden/dono ever given up long passes while here, I actually don't think I can think of one... We are giving up easier plays to shut down ones with a higher degree of difficulty, I want to see it flipped, and see us get beat like that, I will go home satisfied

Hurricane footballl is dead. This same bull**** of blaming the players has been going on for four years and the AD is all too happy to let it be the way it is.
 
I've never seen a D1 team that cannot execute a simple safety or corner blitz. Absolutely horrible to watch cuz you know their not going to get to the QB.

I know. This was an issue under the previous regime as well. They look like the keystone cops out there trying to execute a safety blitz. Our DBs run directly into the LOS and never get to the QB and it is never disguised.

He is right it isn't No D... IT'S HIS FREAKING SCHEME!!! Anyone here the announcers on Saturday basically laughing at how out of position the Safeties were? They were pushing downfield but filling hte WRONG GAPS!!!

I find it interesting how under Coker, Shannon, and Golden's failed tenures, certain things are so similar. It's almost like you can just erase the names of the players and coaches and write in new ones. Same play, different cast.

A main act in these tragedies is always the public statement from players swearing it's not (coach's) fault, but rather the player's.
 
These guys are ******* inbasuls. un****ing believable that these guys have a job at a major division 1 program. I have no major coaching experience and can probably do a better job than these stupid mother****ers.

Hey..."its designed that every play someone has to make a tackle" you deserve a ******* nobel prize for that **** there...I mean who would have thought that on defense..the goal was to make a tackle on each play. WOW!!!! I am cancelling class and allowing that to marinate some more. I have been enlightened by the dumbest **** I have ever heard. Got**** I feel so bad for the players.

And speaking of the players....what do you expect them to say...."yeah these coaches ***** suck man" Perryman would lose his starting job. Despite how bad this scheme is, he aint gonna take money out of his pocket. Kid has responsibilities and loyalties that go beyond these stupid sons of *******.

We gave up a 99 yarder vs Duke their first year here. Don't you remember that schit? It was almost the back breaker.
