Would you take Tom Brady on the Dolphins?

There are not 20 better QB’s in football than Tom Brady.

That’s blasphemous.

Even if he’s not Top 5 anymore, he’s certainly Top 10.

To keep both for 2018, they would’ve had to franchise him and ride with him and Brady both carrying 20 million cap hits for one season.

Not really feasible.

Supposedly Belichick wanted to trade Brady after 2016 and keep Jimmy.

I watched almost every Pats game this year, he ain't top 10, maybe he's in the 12-25 range, but I will not bother to split hair on mediocrity. I do think if he can land on a loaded offense and good offense scheme he can take a team very far, let's say the Cowboys/Pitt, but if you're expecting him to do much more, well look no further than 2019 Patriots

EDIT - So I took a look at the QBs in the NFL and I grossly overrated them. I could list only six QBs I would absolutely take before Brady
Aaron Rodgers
Brees
Matt Ryan
Patrick Mahomes
Watson
Wentz
Wilson

And I think you could make the case for the guys below:
Cousins
Dak Prescott
Darnold (I'm higher on him than most)
Garappolo
Kyler Murray (Honestly I have no idea what kind of QB he can become, but he flashed)
Lamar (Honestly I have no idea what kind of QB he can become, but he DOMINATED this year)

So my take is, Brady ain't what he used to be, but you could do A LOT worse.

Exactly. Except it wasn't 3rd down. That drop was on 2nd and 6. But since Brady simply isn't as lethal or automatic anymore it indeed felt like 3rd down.

The next pass was harmlessly incomplete.

Then Belichick made a stupid decision to punt, instead of giving himself 2 chances instead of 1. All of the analytics forums were assailing the decision to punt.

Yes, and that was a guarantee. Brady is like a senior golfer who can't play all 4 rounds of a major at young guy level. His form and arm strength during the second week of the season against the Dolphins was absolutely fine. He could throw the ball downfield. Once it reached the rematch in week 17 now Brady is resorting to screen passes and only occasionally risking downfield.

The ideal scenario for Brady would have been if New England could coast to a playoff bye, allowing him to rest late season and then during the bye week. That team still had Super Bowl potential in that scenario. But once the Ravens moved ahead of New England, and then the Patriots were forced to deal with Kansas City for the second seed, Brady was really taxed and declining.

I don't think any team since I've been following this sport needed a bye week as much as the 2019 Patriots.

As you posted earlier, kudos to Brady for delaying decline until age 42. Now it's only one direction.
