Would you banned players from posting on Social Media?

If you were the Head Coach of the University of Miami, would you band your players from posting on Social Media to stay focus and out of potential trouble?

I’m a bit of a hard *** when it comes to this type of stuff. I have zero tolerance for players doing stupid things on Social Media. If I was running this program, I would band them from posting on Social Media during Spring Training and August-January 7th.

If I’m not mistaken, Alabama and Clemson do not allow players on Social Media. Then again, for the NCAA sake, if I were them, I wouldn’t allow them to either.

Thoughts?
You should be banned for playing in the band 🎺🎺🎺

I agree with all of the posts that have said that it would deter kids from coming to UM if the school banned it. However, we have also seen how social media can land some people in hot water - game suspensions being the most common consequence. Honestly, N'Kosi makes me nervous and his post this week about UM being boring is not the greatest recruitment tactic. I wish the NCAA would simply ban all athletes from social media period. That way, one university does not have an advantage over another.

Social media what to do about it since its here to stay.#1 if tell my players not to do anything that discredits the unoversoty, the team and yourself.#2 id tel them if you can't get it done on Saturday don't talk trash m-f .if you can't follow university or team rules team will be banned from social media during the season and spring practices.

No, it’s not like they’re devoting their lives to it. Folks just don’t realize how quick it is to make a post. They ain’t spending the whole day on it.

Here's the thing. I'd say pretty much the entire team uses some form of social media and 95% of them never post or say anything incriminating or detrimental. I'd say it's smart to have rules and if certain players break those rules they get punished on an individual basis. Banning social media for the entire team would be akin to banning video games in the 90's because three kids skipped class to play video games. Every kid uses it, only a small handful abuse it.

No OP but I would tell the players put the fcukin phones down when it’s time to fcukin work. I don’t want to see any of them faqquit phones during practice

U would miss out on a ton of elite recruits if you pull a stunt like that. Miami will be A secondary school no longer elite

lol so dont pay players and then on top of that, have the NCAA ban players from using their phones. what?

one kid on the team posted dumb things. thats it. his teammates are the ones who should be policing his posts, not coaches or the NCAA.

yup. it only works for clemson in season bc its player led not coaches led. tbh, if 99 percent fo the players are not posting dumb stuff, then it really isnt a problem. we all loved how deejay and nesta are talking **** with the UF players and fans. you cant have it both ways. dont attribute perrys issues to the rest of the team.

i personally wish perry would be smarter when hes posting on SM, but as long as he isnt getting arrested, it is what it is.

U just release a kid that does what Perry does on social media. U send a clear message it’s simple.

so strip his ship away bc he posted on twitter, insta, or fb? lol some of you guys would not last in recruiting then. no recruits would care what perry's posts were just that he was kicked off for social media use. you just have to learn to deal with social media use.

he is stupid with his SM use for being a public figure (i dont even like when normal people curse on twitter on public accounts), but you cant kick him off unless hes actually done something wrong.

No.
Why?

Social Media is here and isn't going anywhere. You police it make sure nothing crazy is being shown.
So is fast food, but do we want our players gorging themselves on it?

I'd limit their social media, and take it away if they do something stupid.

Don't ban social media. But give limits to posting about internal team issues, etc, that should come with penalties. Like anything it should be used with discretion when dealing with sensitive information.

I would not ban it per se, but would emphasize that you have a better chance of starting and getting more playing time if you put more focus on football and your studies than posting on the snapface.

I bet you'd be banning video games too if kids were missing/late to class or team meetings because of it. But I don't disagree that you don't necessarily need to have a team wide ban. These are adults (even though some are immature) we're talking about. But you do have to be able to show the team that you have rules and will hold individuals accountable when needed.

I think the video games comparison is a bad one.

No player (that I have known of) has ever been sued or brought public shame to their institution because they played 8 hours of Dr. Mario.

Social media is way too integral to modern life to ban anyone, especially kids, from using it....I mean, even at my age it's important....how else am I supposed to let hundreds of people I only tangentially know....what I am having for dinner....
