Would we have really blown out Oklahoma in 2000?

The thing about that Miami team is they got progressively better as the year went on. By the end of the season we were humming and had essentially become the team that would destroy everybody the next year. I don't think we would have blown out OU, but we would have beaten them. At the end of the year we were playing the best football out of anyone.

To the question of a blowout, Idk but we were firing on all cylinders and I think we would have won by at least 2 to 3 TD's.

The GT vs VT lightning game being canceled really ****ed us. The margin in the final bcs poll between us and fsu was so slim that it would have been overcome because of opponent record portion of the computer polls.

not blown out , I think odd makers had us 6 point fav if we played.

where OK was favored by 2 over FSU

OK had a legit D that year and Butch was still our coach and had some issues adjusting at times..

oh well we creamed the gators anyway

Not exactly. I experience this all the time on message boards, lousy memories regarding pointspreads of old. Often the number cited is two full touchdowns or more away from the actual number.

This is in that neighborhood. Oklahoma was hardly a 2 point favorite over Florida State. The Seminoles were a double digit favorite. On game day that line was consensus -11 although there were some spots at 10.5 or 11.5.

I was in Miami that day. There were actually Canes fan callers to sports talk radio shows rooting for Oklahoma. Unbelievably dense. We would have won the AP poll handily upon a Florida State win, just like USC did three years later amidst the controversy of the BCS final numbers elevating LSU and Oklahoma above #1 poll ranked USC. In the BCS era there was room for a split title. Heck, that USC 30 for 30 made no mention of the split aspect. It handed USC the 2003 title point blank. Right now we could be claiming 6 national championships with no asterisks or explanation required. More room above the Gators' 3. And yet some Canes fans didn't want that. It was preferable to spite Florida State.

Anyway, the Canes would have been roughly a 7 point favorite over Oklahoma. The estimates were -6 to -7.5 but the power rating and home field generally placed it at -7.

I'm not convinced we would have won handily. Oklahoma led the nation in yards allowed per pass attempt. That was easily Stoops' most legitimate squad from that standpoint. Otherwise he's often overachieved with teams that had poor pass defense by national championship standards.

It was not a fluke that a team leading the nation in pass defense could slow and frustrate Florida State. They would have given us a world of trouble. I think Miami would have won narrowly.

FSU had at least 2 or 3 wide open shots at td's in that game and either dropped the ball or missed the throw. That OU defense was legit, but I think we could've run on them.

We'd have scored more than 2pts, no doubt.

They were better but even the UF game, Florida led late in that game. It was a flurry of points at the end that made the game look more in Miami favor.

Yeah, 10 points in the 4th quarter sure is some flurry. Unless my math is wrong, I would venture to say that the score was Miami 27 - Florida 17 heading into the 4th. But yeah, Florida had us beat....lol

Yeah but your memory fails you. Florida took the lead in the third quarter. Then Miami scored 14 straight to take the lead. UF cut the lead to 27-20 in the fourth. It was 10 points late that made it look worse. Plus that UF team wasn't great. They lost to miss St and got waxed by fsu 30-7. Look that Miami team was great but they didn't dismantle UF. I think they beat Oklahoma cause Miami had a functional offense that fsu didn't minus snoop.

Lol, that you add your own rhetoric to prove some point. When did I ever say UF had anyone beat? Don't post again until you find it

And LOL at you saying that UF that year wasn't anything great. They weren't the best team in the nation, but you don't make it to the Sugar Bowl for any reason. They had a legit team that year. And ***** you for making me say something about those a-holes in shortsville.

lol my memory fails me all the time

I don't know how late the points came, but I remember watching the game and having zero doubts about the outcome. Sebastian got the celebration penalty & Sievers hit that ridiculous 50yd PAT and it was like 3and43 all over again. Good times, man. Good times.

Three things happened in that game: (1) Sebastian got a 15-yard personal foul for coming onto the field on the last touchdown. The look on Butch's face was priceless; (2) Spurrier was very gracious and essentially said Miami beat up Florida; and (3) Florida's players couldn't believe how physical Miami was. Oh yeah, and in a steel cage match on Bourbon Street our guys beat the crap out of some of the Florida kids. Far cry from 8 years earlier when our kids were out partying at all hours and got embarrassed by Alabama.
