Would fans really be content with a coordinator hire?

Mondays defense with a Jedd Fisch offense would have gotten us a W.

The University of Miami: Where giving up 350 yards and 24 points is considered "Good"

With a better offense maybe they have less opportunity to get that 350 and 24.. If you watched game, there's no way you can argue the defense didnt play well enough to win the game.

Maybe if my aunt had balls she would be my uncle.

How was it that we were able to win games in the mid 2000's, soley on defense, when our offense was even more putrid than it is now?

Because according to you and ThomasM, if your offense sucks, you can't expect to have a dominant defense.

because that defense was NASTY.. and coker wasn't a good manager of a program, but he wasn't a terrible OC. dude could at least move the ball a little.. the coker T is 98% more effective than that bs we ran monday.

Drops happen every game. To hear you guys talk, every single incompletion was a drop that otherwise would have been a touchdown.
Pal, you have no idea who I am, but a loser I am not. I call it like I see it. Our D gave our O the ball twice inside the 15, and we get 3 points. We converted how many third downs? What was the time of possession? Yet you still think the D was the problem? Come on now. It's not like Virginia Tech just put 600 yards on us, again. 336 is such a massive improvement. Had our O not been so pathetic, we'd have probably given up less than 300 and come away with a huge win. This game was ALL ON THE OFFENCE, and if you can't see it then you are the fool.
I'm proud of our D. 336 yards to ANY Petrino team is an accomplishment. They kept us in the game, and gave us a great chance to win. Our O ripped out their hearts, and the hearts of our fans. Not so much our O, but the putrid play calling by the staff. I doubt the players on O were any less heart broken. :(

That's because you are a loser. Your post reads like this: "But but guysm at least we didn't get our asses totally stretched out by Petrino"

Let's not act like Louisville didn't have a few drops that made defense look better, not to mention they had a RS freshman QB and missing their best offensive player. If Louisville is held to 12, we win, no other way around it. Our defense only looked good b/c u compare it to last year's WOAT defense.

I've spent a considerable amount of time reading all the coaching suggestions on this board and outside of Butch Davis suggestions a lot of people bring up coordinators to run a program.

In college football's history how many coordinators have made the transition from coordinator to a very successful head coach at a top program? I ask this because wouldn't you want a coach with a body of work to judge on instead of an unknown?

We haven't won 10 games since 2003. We probably won't win 10 this year and our previous coaches were Randy Shannon(supposedly a top DC) and Larry Coker(supposedly a top OC) and most people want a coordinator with no track record of head coaching success? Unless you can see into the future, we'd experience the same growing pains like every other hire we've made in the past 10 years.

Lets look at examples.

Will Muschamp- As a DC, had all the defensive superlatives most of you guys point out with guys like Pruitt and Narduzzi, but is about to be out of a job this year and has no continuity with coordinators. Its been the same as Shannon's selection of coordinators.

Jimbo Fisher- An exception but it's a gamble.

Bob Stoops- An exception but it's a gamble.

Charlie Weis at ND- One of the top OCs in the NFL. We know how he turned out.

Mark Richt- Has had success at UGA but would you want our next hire to have his kind of career here?

Mike Shula- Bust

Chip Kelly- An exception but it's a gamble. Comparable to a Philip Montgomery or Chad Morris.

Dana Holgorsen- Wouldn't say he got a gig at a top school but is another example of a high-powered offensive guy.

Overall, my point is that in our position we shouldn't be taking high risks on proven coordinators but unproven head coaches. At this stage, we need a guy with experience. A guy whose had success at a lesser program but obviously will never win championships at that school which is the route top coordinators should take.

You just described Al Golden. Contrary to what people believe now, Golden was actually a pretty hot name in the coaching circle when we hired him. If we didn't give him the job, another top program would have soon.

We need a guy that will sure up at least one side of the ball immediately, I prefer defense but it doesn't really matter. We need someone who will bring the aggression back to the program, turn these athletes loose.

Not necessarily. He was a hot name, however, you can question his success at Temple. Besides, I'm referring to a truly successful lesser program coach that has won something. Urban Meyer, Jim Tressel, Brian Kelly, Gus Malzahn etc won something at a lesser school as a head coach.
