Ill take the hire but ill be cautiously optimistic, depending on who he hires as his assistants will determine how well we will be

I understand the Butch love, but I would prefer us getting involved with Chip Kelly. There are rumors about him to USC.
Safe pick? What makes him a safe pick? What has done recently in this current form of college football? Seems yall just want a steady 8-9 win team every year with a CHANCE to make a playoff push or do you want to take a chance on a guy that will bring you there every year, i like butch i wouldnt mind the hire but i really dont see him taking us there on a consistent basis imo
Why not? He previously built a team here that won 34 straight and went to 4 straight BCS bowl games.
He only coached one year of that team, the team was so talented coker won with them, also a different era when talent won you games, its not just that now a days you need more than that

That was my point. He stockpiled talent and built the top program in the country to the point where Larry Coker of all people could stroll to a title and 3 straight BCS games.
As to the you need more than talent point. People are in here talking like he's an Al Golden-esque buffoon on the sidelines. The man was a Super Bowl winning coordinator and his Miami teams finished in the AP top 20 (3 times in the top 15) every year he was here except for '97 when the bottom fell out due to the sanctions. So we finished in the top 20 4 times prior to the full flush of talent coming together in 2000.

What i said in my previous post is you need more than that now a days in college football, with how stacked bama is every year they should win every game and championship but its more than that, the system and mentality are key, we wont win with a old school pro style concept, you gotta be aggressive and give so many different looks, like i said it depends on who he hires as assistants, defensively we will be good with butch but the offense will be my biggest concern, and since this is a offensive game now a days offense should be a priority

This. I also wonder if people will be patient. I think it would take 4+ years to possibly get us to where we want to be with Butch. I don't see a one or two year turn around.Picks Good Coordinators - Check.
See, this is my concern right here, especially offensively.
He hired Larry Coker and John Shoop at OC. I think Butch is conservative in nature and wants to hire a "pro style" NFL coordinator who called plays for the '06 Vikings or something. Some people don't want to hear it, but spread is the name of the game right now. With limited practice time, it's easier to teach, and requires the QB to make fewer reads, which allows young guys to play earlier.
If we hire Butch, I hope he's willing to open things up a bit.
I just think Butch's hire is seen as all positives but there are legitimate cons that should worry us if he's brought back. All I want and all any canes fan wants to get the best possible coach that will lead us to the NC game and win it. Whether Butch is that guy, I just don't know. There are a lot of question marks that people are glossing over.
plus nothing healthier than a good debate.
It doesn't take 4+ years to get where we want to be. Especially with a full allotment of scholarships and the most fertile recruiting base. 3 years and we should be humming.
So long as Butch is able to put together a great staff (Xs and Os) then I think we can contend for a national title within 3-4 years. If we hire Butch we need to make sure he has the resources ($$) to put together a top staff.
We're cheap and refuse to pay for an elite coach. Butch is willing to come in on the cheap. He's the best bang for our buck.

Fine. I'm tired of hearing this ***t. Let's talk Chip Kelly:
His spread offenses shocked the PAC-12, and it took a while to figure out how to defend them.
Kelly's defenses were not good. He'd run the table during regular season, play an SEC team, and get beaten - and the SEC boys are not the fastest defenders in college football.
MOST IMPORTANT: Chip Kelly got an NCAA, 18-month SHOW CAUSE. UM wouldn't TOUCH Kelly. Not in this universe.
So can we finally STFU over Chip Kelly coming to UM. Never, ever.
