Would Butch be the best possible hire?

It is amazing that some actually dont want Butch as the coach. Then give 0 info who we shoukd get. In 2010 Butch lost 13 starters for their opener. He lost 3 of his top players for full yr suspensions and another for 6 games. Lol chip kelly is not coming here

Should there be a job opening Butch Davis should be given serious consideration. Instant recruiting and would hold the class together, popular with local coaches and the ability to assemble a professional staff quickly.

Why hasn't the man been snatched up by another program? He's just waiting for the off chance that our brain dead BOT decides to hire him? Doubt it

Dude got pushed on a sword by UNC...so the untouchable Roy Williams stays clean. He was 'officially' cleared of any wrong doing, but if hired, a school would have to explain themselves. They don't wanna deal with, what might be, extra and unwanted PR. We'd be well served to have him back asap.

See, this is my concern right here, especially offensively.

He hired Larry Coker and John Shoop at OC. I think Butch is conservative in nature and wants to hire a "pro style" NFL coordinator who called plays for the '06 Vikings or something. Some people don't want to hear it, but spread is the name of the game right now. With limited practice time, it's easier to teach, and requires the QB to make fewer reads, which allows young guys to play earlier.

If we hire Butch, I hope he's willing to open things up a bit.

So why does Butch get a pass for losing players for their opening game but people want to blast Al's opener against Maryland?
 
I dont see any one snatching up Jimmy johnson, dungy etc either. The reason is b/c they dont want to coach. I havent seen anything in the past that shows Butch was looking to coach. I dont remember a single interview or coaching rumor. Now he has shown desire to coach. A lot of assumptions from the anti butch crowd

Because Al got tore up by bubble screens all game and adjusted by leaving the DBs back 10 yards off the line. Al didn't lose because he had starters out, he lost because his coaching that game was just as bad as it is now. Nothing has changed. Flats flats flats. I remember it clearly. Should've known that game.

Important to note too is that Butch dealt with actual NCAA sanctions...a little more than 9 over 3. When he had a full compliment of scholly's, we won like 35 games or something disgusting like that.

Because that Maryland Team went 2-10 that year with their only other win against Townson while that LSU team was 11-2 and finished ranked in the top 10.

That was one of the worst coached games I've ever seen. Mind blowing to think nothing has changed.

That was probably the angriest I had ever been after a loss up to that point. Actually, just about every loss under Al has upset me more than any other years. With Shannon I always felt like the players never progressed and the coaching was average. With Al I just feel the coaching is an absolute wreck and makes it 100000x worse no matter how many times we have seen it.

Those coaches have said they were leaving the game, Butch never said he left the game. In-fact he said in a article himself that his situation at UNC has hurt his ability to get a job.

This. I also wonder if people will be patient. I think it would take 4+ years to possibly get us to where we want to be with Butch. I don't see a one or two year turn around.

I just think Butch's hire is seen as all positives but there are legitimate cons that should worry us if he's brought back. All I want and all any canes fan wants to get the best possible coach that will lead us to the NC game and win it. Whether Butch is that guy, I just don't know. There are a lot of question marks that people are glossing over.

plus nothing healthier than a good debate.

BINGO...Assistant Coaches, especially O and D coordinators are critical. Say what you want about AL and rightfully so but the bigger issue is both of our Coordinators are all time JAGS

Love butch as much as the next guy but my question is if chip is fires, which it looks like he will be, where els would he land because he's not getting another nfl job and idk if there would be a better college job available this year

There is a lot of talk that Maryland will to go after him and sell him on them being the flagship school of Under Armor.

How long would he take to turn things around and how long are people willing to wait?

I think there are a couple coaches that are the real deal that we should look at ahead of Butch. Sure he's done it before but his returning is no guarantee of success.

Theres a lot of nostalgia with Butch but I'm afraid it may not be so easily replicated as many of think.
