Worst tackling game of the Cristobal era...

A bit of a blur now, but being at the game , it was I believe sometime late in the 3rd Q with VT in the red zone , I am watching Wes and the dude was completely gassed. He just stood away from everyone till VT came up to the line before he walked to his spot.

All I could think was, if Wes has to make a play here ,we are in trouble!
Not sure what happened but it seems like we played more people in the previous games. Even against Florida. I dont recall seeing Chase Smith get in the game at all. Not sure if it's injuries or what.

Hey thanks for looking out. No I prefer winning. Makes for better ****post. But I know ImperialCane is out there doing enough.

It's really a function of time. I have less of it. I didn't even know I had you blocked until I scrolled down and saw post and no notification. But I'm sure we'll meet again. LA Forza del Destino

Blocking people is for pussies

I haven't rewatched, but I had LB play as the worst position play all night. They were on skates biting on all the misdirection and couldn't tackle, particularly Kiko early. It was bad.

I was absolutely disgusted by what I saw defensively. From the play to the coaching. We looked like a Manual defense in space tackling and taking awful angles.
Awful coaching!! We should have had an extra linebacker out there. No adjustments, RB is ok, this week Ott is the real deal. Our DB looked lost in coverage.

Watching on ACCN…we are not tackling. We just regressed back to the good ole days.

Richard missed some bad ones, surprised there wasn't three

First have looks like VT got leverage and ran sweeps right at our DBs and forced them to tackle, which they didnt.

We adjusted second half then our interior got mopped up by the outside zone.

Guidry's got some work to do, still not convinced our defense is going to be this horrible.

Do the defensive gurus on CIS feel our issues are more schematic, personnel, or a combination of the two?

To me tackling in football is like making a layup in basketball. If I as a coach design a play or scheme that gets a player a layup and he misses, that is on the player because I can’t do anything more than put the player in position to make the play.

What i saw Friday night were players who were outflanked on the edge (scheme) and then either too small or too slow to finish the play (personnel). Which is why I made the post about needing Bain because I think he alone would have removed the strong side issues on the edge.

But I ask my first question with all sincerity.

Sometimes it is like being half a step behind or half a second late on every play... we couldn't adjust to their pre-snap movement . Never looked comfortable defensively all game..

4th quarter..everyone is gassed.

We were coming in a day early after an unusually long, physical game at USF..
Not making excuses... but we were half a step behind on every play.
Thank goodness it was at home... else I think this would have been an L

Long flight and late game next.

As far as the DBs in coverage, we played a lot of man but I think our DBs were just giving too much cushion. If you're in man playing 8-10 yards off and the receiver runs a crossing route u have no chance. If we are going to be play man primarily then we have got to get up on the receivers and put hands on them to mess up the timing.

The recruiting on that side has been vastly overrated. We are small up front and the back seven is full of mediocre athletes. Give me one name on our defense who would’ve played in that GA/Bama game. You can’t.

Miami missed 21 tackles.

Meesh, Alston, Kiko, Porter were the ones who missed 3 or more.

Wesley, OJ, Hill
Tackled solidly best of defense.

It was worst tackling game of Mario
Era, worst since Mid Tenn State.

What was the cause? Short week after playing an uptempo USF offense than ran lots of plays? Injuries piling up? Not focused enough? VT just has horses in Drones and the RB?

I think really it was a little bit of all that. This was uncharacteristic performance from a Guidry defense. It was his units worst tackling game of his Miami tenure.

Why do you all think we tackled so poorly?
I said Friday night games are just spooky. VTech is better than their record shows but I think in college Thursday/Friday games are always weird

I

there was signs against USF. A lot of the same issues but USF doesn’t have the talent or depth of a VT. The film is out now. Hopefully somebody steps up at some spots and Bain is Moses when he returns. Damari too.
Will Guidry ever go to zone?

That's an interesting stat to watch as the season progresses, a good defense you'd want ard 21-22ppg against P4 opps.

It might be too early to judge idk

How many turnovers and short fields has Guidry defense had to face verse Steele?

TVD and now Ward aren’t helping with thru over the ball over and giving up field position
