“Mario will never do it”

That was me after the SMU game. Was convinced we’d be in 9-10 win purgatory for the rest of his tenure. Proved me and many other wrong. After SMU he also got far better as a gameday coach. Something clicked. Outcoached Elko and Day. Nearly out coached cig.

After the Louisville game, I kept thinking, "We dumbed ourselves out of position again, our QB choked, and we have Mario for at least another five years."

I was so despondant after that game.

- I was ready to send Keelan Marion to the bench after the Louisville game and ESPECIALLY after the Stanford game.

- I thought Marquis Lightfoot and Justin Scott weren't ready for primetime after the first few weeks.

I didn't have many bad takes besided figuring Bauman would be a red zone threat and Lofton would have a big year like everyone else but hoo boy were there some classics from others before and during the season:

- Someone confidently said Bain would be a UDFA
- Several said Messidor should come off the bench
- A workout tape of Jojo and Marion had several porsters declare Jojo was gonna be an All American and Marion was an FCS WR
- Virtually no one was high on Moten although he looked good in '24 playing through injuries
- Very few people expected much from CJ Daniels
- Half the board crapping their pants that Beck's elbow wouldn't be healed
- A few bad Brockermeyer snaps in a monsoon and most people were ready to write him off as useless
- Half the board was actually pi$$y after the ND win because we ran the ball too much

I'll give everyone mulligans on their reactions after SMU because that loss was pretty indefensible and few people could have anticpiated the turnaround. I thought we'd lose at least 1 more and be relegated to a 2nd tier bowl again.

1. Didn’t know Bain could lose all that weight and look that quick. I hadn’t seen it. In fact, the pattern looked the opposite.

2. Thought we were absolutely cooked after the SMU game. Spent 24 hours in Dallas in near depression.

3. Thought the fairy tale was over when Mesidor was hurt on the field and we needed a goal line stand against Ole Miss.
 
I said for people to shut up about Fitzgerald in the preseason bc if he played any amount of real snaps, that meant there was a ton of misses and wasted money spent on the new secondary.
