Word is we’ll have a premier rb…

Keep in mind they have whiffed on multiple guys over the years that they back channeled to hit the portal and were already "locked in" but not public yet.

Andre Sam is one but was a different reason because it would have tipped off tampering so they let him go to LSU without fighting for it. There have been multiple others at multiple positions including DL, WR, and DB only for them to not enter at all or enter and get an offer they liked better and end up elsewhere.

Hope they offer multiple guys and don't just take their word for it on this RB. You do all the leg work and make the offer that sounds perfect and then they enter and they have 45 schools making offers and 1 school is desperation makes an offer $100k above everyone else..

Yup, all facts.

But if it’s the guy I think you’re alluding to, I don’t think Mario will let funds be the reason he goes elsewhere. This is a statement move for the position and the offense in general. We’ve also got a walk-in for the starter job available, a good OL, and a dynamite QB + passing game on paper to take away numbers in the box.

It’s an RB1’s dream scenario. And we should be going all in on offense for the 2024 season.

Hate that this should be a duh, but you are right.

What happened with Knighton in 2020? I thought he played all year or most of it at least.

He is by far the most productive of the bunch and that's incredibly sad, because he wasn't particularly productive over his career.

The list I posted are the top RB's recruited over the last 6 years. I added Chaney as well, as he and Knighton were almost identical, grade wise. Here's their ON3 score, yards for their career, and eventual outcome:

2023: Fletcher (93.04) 514 yards, injured freshman year
2022: Citizen (94.52) injured before ever playing a snap
2021: Franklin (90.96) 381 yards over 2 seasons, transferred
2020: Knighton (93.21) 1193 yards over 3 seasons, transferred
2020: Chaney (93.15) 374 yards over 3 seasons, injured, transferred
2018: Lingard (96.71) 136 yards, injured, transferred

That's 2,598 yards for 6 RB's over their entire careers that had an average ON3 score of 93.59. That score is around the 7th or 8th best RB in the country every year. And Knighton is half of that production.

Compare that to the previous 6 top recruited RB's over the same time frame:

2017: Dallas (90.18) 1,527 over 3 seasons, NFL
2016: Homer (91.55) 1,995 over 3 seasons, NFL
2015: Walton (95.47) 2,006 over 3 seasons, injured, NFL
2014: Yearby (96.04) 2119 over 3 seasons, NFL (undrafted)
2013: Edwards (85.93) 977 over 3 seasons, NFL
2012: Johnson (96.15) 3,519 yards over 3 seasons, NFL

So that's a score of 92.55, or 93.88 without Edwards, so worse of the same as the above group. They produced 12,143 yards over their careers. And all of them went to the draft.

That's why I said, "That's brutal", which may be the understatement of the century.
