Let me preface this message by saying, I’m just as disappointed with the way we closed today as majority of this board and I have the same concerns with the defensive recruiting.

With that being said, it looks as if we will keep losing these battles until we start winning consistently. Unfortunately, right now we are still in a period where we have to take the players that come (Millers, Bethels, etc.) coach the **** out of them and win with what we have on stock right now.

That’s the only we way are going to stop losing these battles. Georgia this year is proof! Yeah they have a new staff, but they also selling (or cheating) with “join the new Alabama”.

Until we find a way to win the ACC, make the playoffs, etc. we are going to continue losing a lot (but not all) key battles I’m recruiting.

One more thing, It seems Richt chose coaching ability over recruiting prowess. Also, it seems as if he chose a staff and coaches that would grow with the program instead of coaches who will bolt every time a job comes open. He chose loyalty. Will it work? Only time will tell.

Agree on most points. People don't want to hear or believe this though. We have to win and recruit the hard way till were truly back. Not one ten win season in 15 years back.

It took Dabo 10 years to get Clemson where they are now. It's about consistent success. We've had one 10 win season in 12 years. It'll come as long as Richt can continue getting us to the ACCCG. Then we'll win one, and be that trendy pic kids flock to.

Very logical and sensible post.

Which is why it will get lost quick. This board hates facts.

Dabo kept changing his staff until he got it right.

And for every Dabo there are like 50 failures. This isn't Mark Richt's first rodeo. He has a very clear track record which has followed him to UM.

But continue to slurp and slurp. Amazing how much a mediocre staff is beloved by our "fans".

Thx fam. Folks need to remember all these kids grew up with Miami being a bad program. Flying banners and empty stadiums is what they remember. The brand we built with the 5 Championships was in a coma for a generation. Richt is starting to wake up that monster. We are not quite there yet.

Richt has to win though.

They are beloved because we have been the battered wife for 15 years, as long as the second husband doesn't beat us it is a plus! Sad statement but winning a little bit, getting to the ACCCG is actually an accomplishment compared to where we have been, unfortunately.

As a Cane alum from the late '80's it takes a lot to suffer through the rebuild but it beats the **** out of Al Golden!

In 7 days.

I think it's also worth noting that it took even Saint Butch 6 years to build a team capable of contending.

Got to win but got to get some recruiters on defensive staff.

Agree with you dog. I wish Hartley was able to handle the recruitment of all defensive players plus whoever else he's assigned to recruit. Hoping this Patke kid (or whoever else turns out to be the 10th coach) is a big time recruiter on defense.

This isn't the late 80s and recruits clearly don't care about what we used to be. Florida talent is no longer a secret weapon and the elite programs have resources available to them now that were unimaginable in those days. Miami is going to win by $ECing their problems away. The school finally looks like it has a willingness to invest in the program, but I think the only way that happens is if we see steady improvement (and increased revenues) with less resources. We have to take flyers on less-experienced coaches, develop local talent, and play to our strengths.

Actually it took Dabo 7 years to get to a NC game and 8 years to win a NC. Richt was at UGA for 15 years. What was his excuse?

I disagree.

1. "It seems Richt chose coaching ability over recruiting prowess" Seriously? We have multiple coaches doing their job for the FIRST Time...AT MIAMI! How in the Actual Phack is that Coaching ability?

2. "It seems as if he chose a staff and coaches that would grow with the program instead of coaches who will bolt every time a job comes open." Again, Seriously? Who, in their right mind, would want Banda, Rumph, Diaz, Searels, John Richt, Brown and Hartley. Dugan is not great but he is sufficient. Kool is a great teacher but he can't recruit worth a darn.

Now, we are about to add Jonathan Patke to the staff. The University of Incarnate Word "PIPE LINE" continues. You can't make this up.

This staff represents ONE THING: Richt's religious beliefs.

Nice post and good perspective. Everyone wants a top 3 class. We were 2-3 legit contenders for some recruits that would have put us up there. I will take that for year 2 under Richt.
