Winning the ACC...Finally!

I'm like 90% there with you, but I would like to win this thing once, check that box (just like winning the Fiesta Bowl) and then just focus on the CFP. I do think they will stop having these championship games for the P4, because there's far more to lose than win. Those championship games were great when we didn't have a playoff, but now they look to hurt more than help.

All that said, I'd like to win that game once - this year - and then have them just award a champion with the idea that the main thing is the playoff.
I'd like to see them integrated into the playoff somehow. It'd be a shame to completely do away with them.

I want us to win the ACC but I hope the team doesnt look at it as some type of achievement and when they accomplish it, they let off the gas. We need to go 1 better and get #6. That's the goal.

That's an interesting thought. Maybe if they go to 16 teams, you could have that first week as a conference championship game and then go on from there.

So has anyone figured out how this is all going to play out with some teams having 8 conference games and some having 9? Imagine a scenario where Miami loses one conference game, but two or three other teams that only have 8 games have one loss. How does the tie breaker work?

Honestly after this year and what happened. IDGAF about winning it, but winning it makes it easier to get in. We can’t trust the committee to always do the right thing.

If we finish 11-1 with a W in ACCCG we should be in that top 4
Yeah I'd like to think so. Honestly depends when the loss is. Like if we were to lose to Stanford game 1 then go undefeated from there we'd absolutley be top 4 but if we lose to Duke or VT right near the end of the season we're most likely not.

Yea, as fun and impressive as that playoff run was it’s not ideal and you definitely want to avoid it again if you can. A first round bye would definitely be nice.
It was rough. It's a lot to ask, those were 4 big time games in a row. It'd be good to drop that down to 3 big time games, and maybe luck out on a draw.

Also important, winning the ACC, as long as it's not done via some weird quirk like Duke, renders the ND game irrelevant. I don't want them to be in a position of needing to view that November game in South Bend as a virtual play-in game.

Unpopular opinion. **** winning the ACC, I have no desire for winning a league that has treated us like absolute garbage since we joined it and has arguably held us back. Conference title games are pointless. If we got into a situation where we were 11-1 or 12-0 and had the option to skip the ACCCG and still make the CFP I’d take it. An ACC championship trophy means nothing to me as a fan. **** it.
Easiest way to get in is the win the conference. ND would have gotten in over us this past year based on the new rules.

True. A close ND loss wouldnt hurt us nuch unless they go undefeated and 3 other squads also go undefeated which I highly doubt.

Are the byes still tied to the conference champs? No

Miami has a very weak schedule: think Indiana 2025&2026. We likely play 2 ranked teams before Charlotte.

We need to roll into the cfp 13-0
We roll in at 13-0 and I’d bet we’d roll in at No.1..

ACC championship should be the bare minimum. This team has no business losing any conference games. I’m praying Mario has learned that every game needs to be a beatdown.
This. You cannot take your foot off the gas… 4 quarters of beat down football.

The mast drive or two if we’re up 3 scores fine but starting the 2nd half in goal line formation with 3 straight runs for long hitches has to stop

Its the first round bye. Winning 3 cfp games vs 4. It matters
Does it? Ohio State seemed like they were perfectly fine pummeling 4 opponents on the way to their 2024 Natty. The only team to get a first round bye and win a game is Indiana. Most of the teams who got first round byes in 2024 and 2025 were beaten handily. Texas Tech being the biggest surprise to me. What an absolute embarrassing performance from a team most people (including myself) thought could make a run and compete with the big boys.

Awful take. ACC trophy means an automatic bid and likely a 1st round bye. Without it (and let’s say a loss at ND during the season) means we’re staring at 2 losses and may be left out of the playoffs.
Since the inception of the 12 team format, only one team who won their conference championship game has made the Natty, and that was Indiana. It could just be a coincidence or maybe the extra game or extra time between the games has something to do with it. Ohio State came out against us looking slow and just out of shape. Like a team who had been off all spring and summer and had to shake off rust. Unfortunately it was too little too late for them when the rust came off.

This. People will argue that it’s the same amount of games. True. However. You’d have theoretically replaced a tamu with Virginia. Much less physical. Your ACC champ opponent is going to be easier than a mid range playoff team. Because you can’t count on like a jmu or Tulane being there
Are we sure? Because I think a lot of these overhyped mid-tier SEC programs like TEMU aren’t much better than a team like UVA. TEMU will try and beat us at our own game but got outmuscled. UVA would probably do what Louisville did and throw the entire playbook at us.
