It’s obvious to me that this is not the clear cut answer to our recruiting problems. I think it had more to do with our culture or lack there of under Richt and the fact that we need some real killers on the recruiting trail. I believe Manny will get the culture back to where it needs to be by letting the bad boys be bad boys.

If it were only winning that gets recruits then somebody explain to me why FSWho wasn’t even bowl eligible this year but still managed to have a 5 Star CB (who they flipped from us by the way) stick along with a top 100 DB in Cross, Gant (who we wanted), Brownlee (Who flipped from us)

Kids are like anyone. We all want money, fame and to be winners. What kids out there would not want to be part of The U of the glory days. Last year showed What happens with just a little of the old fire. Early signing day was huge, then we lost to WI and February was a bust except for that monster DT from AH. Money bags will sway kids but the cost of stealing kids from The U of the old days would be exponential and less frequent. Once we keep enough, we bury Bama one night in the final game.

Miami needs to get its edge back, Richt did a lot of good things but Miami has been so easily to negatively recruit in his time here. From the blowout/bad losses to horrible ineptitude of richts offense to not having a coach with any fire. That sh*t permeates through your whole program. Recruits see the lack of fire from your head coach and gets turned off by it. That had to go

Diaz will bring more energy for sure in the program just worried about his recruiting. This is still a quick fix and with a competent oc we will be doing great things ahead.

Good point Brock and I said this to many friends that I watch games with. Richt was a good man, but his lack of fire just sucked the life out of the team, IMO. That attitude trickles down to the players. The only time I saw him have a fire under his *** was when he went after the official and even then he regretted that (which he should not have). His ho hum attitude at all times was how our offense played. I hope the fire that Manny will bring will permeate through the whole team. Head coach has get ****ed and show it at times and Richt just didn't have that and many of the players on O did not have it either. Like Richt, but soooo glad he is gone.

Miami isn’t cool anymore. That’s just the facts. We can easily become cool again but as of now we are not cool to these kids. Like at all.

We got to the ACC championship game and media was all over our ****s about the turnover chain and the U is back and all that and we had a top 8 class. We suck and we get put on an ESPN article called the Disappointment Bowl. Then our coach who has been recruiting all these guys retires(they don't trust Diaz as a HC yet). Then we call our coaches bad recruiters for not getting a top 20 class. Funny how that works SMH

Agree with you and Brock. I want a Savage staff that's not afraid to break their headsets (Saban), and argue vehemently when refs are incorrect even when already up by a ton (Dabo and his DC). Show the players (and fan base) that every rep matters.

Diaz can and will have to win with what he has. They should also get the new staff bump in recruiting this year, which should help.

Bruh the world would be falling down around Richt and he’d be standing there so nonchalant with his arms folded. Kids would get dumb penalties and he would never be in anyone’s face. Kids really wanna see that same fire in their coaches. I’m not against coaches wanting their players to grow into good men either but Richt wanted everyday to be bible study and didn’t care enough about the on the field outcome.

Two things can help us in recruiting:

1) Fix the culture internally and externally. Manny realizes this more than anyone, so I think we will be okay there. Get that passion back, don't let kids treat us like a joke or a meal ticket to a Bama offer on the trail. Partner with coaches from the youth level on up, get ingrained I to the SFL youth system early and often. This is the systemic part that takes into account who our recruiters are, the way we recruit these kids, and what we are selling to them.

2) Win CONSISTENTLY. We cannot follow up 10 win seasons with a 7-6 year. We need to start putting a consistent winning product on the field to attract kids. Win multiple Coastal titles in a row...start there. Get that rolling, then kids will see that progress and want to be a part of that, especially if we start putting some scares into Clemson in the ACCCG. Results matter, and how you get them matters as well. These kids ARE watching.

There are a lot of little things that have to be fixed to reach those 2 bigger goals...but those 2 things have to be the guiding principles for everything we do regarding Miami football.

Did you guys not see the apathy on this team and staff over the last 2 months.. .. Richt and his bowl prep...and you expect any recruits with career aspirations to come here???

We need to win with what we have currently and they will come... this class is shot

Dude, we had a #12 class and a #8 class the last 2 years, and that included a bunch of blue chip guys on offense both years. We weren't lacking in the position-coach-as-recruiter department. We stunk this season, Richt obviously hit the end of his road emotionally and performatively, and everybody in the country could see it at a glance. That is not a product you can easily sell to recruits that have lots of options.

As for why FSU still can reel in a good class, there are a litany of reasons. Florida State has better facilities and support staff to recruit to. I think their head coach is a flailing corn ball, but at least he isn't old and grey and defeated and tired and retired. The booster/bag man network can never be discounted. FSU has a national championship in recent memory; Miami's last championship happened the year before these recruits were born. This list is longer but you get the point.

I agree that Manny will improve team culture with his aggressive demeanor/analytical approach combo, but I think the VAST MAJORITY of our recruiting woes can be explained by watching a team that was preseason Top 10 end the year unraked with 0 AP votes.

As quick as we tumbled from 10-0 and ranked 2nd in the country, we can rocket right back up. All it takes is that one guy at the QB position and maintaining the level of play on D.

I think there’s a medium between the two extremes. Bags will always be a factor for some kids. On the other hand, that 10-0 start last year + beat downs of VT and ND definitely got us Jarren Williams (he admitted it himself), and probably is what kept Silvera and maybe Pope from flipping to UF. I also think Surtain doesn’t even entertain a visit to us last year if we went 7-6.

So, the lesson is, you show results on the field, there will be a few recruits who suddenly will listen and give us a chance. But yes, having great recruiters will also help close on these targets when they are open to hearing us out.

This was an easy fix but if only Da Gawd was HC.

I told you so.

More will come but we can't compete with the Bamas or Clemsons . But that doesn't mean we can't get lucky a win a title once in blue moon but really as Miami fans our focus should be winning the Coastal as we have only done that once. We do that a few times and then focus on winning the ACCTG . And so on.
