Willis cut again

This;

I’m not sure if we get this concept. Locker room be damned, when u have talent, teams will find a way to keep u on the team or in the league. U think Willis is more of a headache than Charles Haley? More of a headache than Kill Em Bill Romanowski? More of a headache than Antonio Brown (and let’s be clear, the only reason he’s not in the league is b/c of the domestic violence/rape allegations). More of headache than OBJ? The NFL is and have been dripped w guys who are aren’t wound too tight off the field, but if u are good, they will sweep ur chit under the rug, or if u become too much of a headache, another team will take a flyer on u to rehabilitate ur image. As long as u can play, it’s all good. So it’s gotta be more than just “off field” issues.
If he's the best dude to come out of here lately? We've been living a lie...

Man, I stop wearing the glasses after 2014. Turned in my O&G shades to some bifocals from Lens Crafters. Lol
Lol. I wish I could do the same.
I'm brainwashed brethren. Born and raised in Miami. Deep ties to the U besides being a fan. Blood runs deep. So I gotta ride or die. Recognizing the fact we're f'd, kid...

think he was just cut in prep for the new draft picks which we will have a lot of. He is an end of the roster guy ...maybe they cut him to give some of their new young guys a shot in camp..and give him an early shot to get on another teams roster or practice squad. I can see him ending back on dolphins practice squad if need be

I said it at the time when Jess Simpson his D line coach did not draft Willis that here were problems Willis. If anyone knew Willis it was Simpson. Simpson knew Willis was not worth taking even in the late rounds. He has had a couple chances and cannot play the the NFL level. Yes he had a good senior year in college but that does mean success at the next level.
Yeah and how much say do position coaches have in drafting players?

Agreed, the Raiders and Bengals almost seem to emphasize getting players with off the field issues.

Maybe we mistook his occasional splash plays for "dominance." The Manure defense tends to put a higher stock on occasional disruption than it does on consistent excellence. Willis seems to have fit that mold.
This times 10,000 Chise.

Willis had a great Senior season & had 18TFL's but he was not this unstoppable force that people made him out to be.

He benefitted from Diaz's boom or bust scheme, but he was not a stout run defender, he often overpursued & ran himself out of plays trying to get a TFL instead of playing assignment football.

I remember I had lots of debates in that offseason after he left that people thought he was going to be an irreplaceable DT, he had been elevated to Sapp status by people worrying about the DLine & then our Run Defense actually improved more after he left.

Not bashing the kid & wish him the best, but he was severely overrated on this board due to that one season.

Facts.

Aldon Smith is on the verge of getting back in the league & he's had just as many off the field issues as anybody lol.

In the NFL off the field issues mean absolutely nothing as long as you can play or you're not beating the shìt out of a woman on tape & even in that case there are still multiple dudes in the league who hit a woman on camera, Joe Mixon & Kareem Hunt (although Hunt's incident wasn't that bad).

But the point being, anything short of murder or rape & the league will find a spot for you IF you're talented enough & can help a team win.

Willis struggling to stick in the league has very little to do with Off the field issues & more to do with the fact he's plateaued as a player & doesn't have much upside. DT is a premium position in the league, teams are always in search of DT's & DE's on the cheap, if somebody thought he could help them, they'd bring him in, especially considering he was an UDFA & doesn't command any guaranteed money. His salary is pennies on the dollar, so there's no financial risk in bringing him in if some team was interested.

He doesn't look naturally big to me. Seems like he had to carry some extra flab to get close to his stated weight. Just the way he looks to me.

I saw Willis one time at a Canes camp, and I was frankly surprised to see that he wasn’t as big as I thought. Actually, I thought Joe Jackson and Chad Thomas looked bigger in person.

I think the Canes defense was the right scheme for Willis, and he definitely had one of the greatest seasons ever by a Canes DT. however, the Canes defense was geared for Willis to make plays, and in NFL schemes going against stronger and better OLs, Willis may struggle to hold the point of attack and even find himself out of position. .

I don’t think Willis has the physical tools like Wilfork or Sapp to be dominant in the NFL. Maybe, with a lot more work and dedication, Willis could be an NFL starter. But his time is running out.

Willis did play at about 285 and that’s just too small for an NFL tackle today. I remember Sapp put on about 15 pounds as soon as he started playing in the league. Speaking of guys who never played the run. Sapp used to say “I play the run on my way to the quarterback”.

If he was really that good someone would find a spot for him. I'm not sure what his attitude issues still are, but we managed to keep him eligible and productive for a whole year. I think he's probably an average prospect, and average prospects get no slack for attitude issues in the NFL.

this... people forget teams put up with Antonio brown, pac man jones, suh, josh Gordon. etc. if he was an all world talent, the nfl would make an exception. Reality is he is a decent player but clearly not worth the headache.

Wow. The excuses go on a long way. Willis got drafted by no one. It speaks volumes that his college position coach didn’t seem to think he shoulda have been. Sure, it’s possible simpson wanted him drafted but didn’t have the sway ... but not sure why anyone would believe that. If he was a steal, simpson would have been vocal on the topic. But he wasn’t.
