I'm watching this joke of a basketball game. Greatest cane team in our history and they are pathetic. Ten years of trying desperately to be someone we aren't results in a huge wake up call.

Miami will never, EVER, be a Duke in basketball. And so while we have spent ten years trying to change our image into an academic BBall school, we have turned our backs on who we are.

This is a football school. And yet we spent 10 years pussifying our athletics programs, joining a BBall conference with **** football tv money, spending millions on a basketball stadium while our football facilities were a JOKE, and going cheap on coaching hires. For what? To get exposed as the most overrated team in the country come tourney time?

Miami has an identity, and it ain't anything like Wake or Duke. Stop running from it.

We won a National Championship in football and baseball in 2001.

You're allowed to be dominant in more than one sport.

It just so happens that at this moment in time, our basketball team is doing better than any other sport.

Man this is a good basketball team. If you know anything in the late 90's the bball team was pretty good. I dont think the big east was such a dominant football conference.

Goldenshowers, maybe you should consider this quote before premature posting: It's better to be thought a fool then to open your mouth and relieve all doubt!!!! SMH....

Wow, what rambling, whining, nonsense. The BBall program is still a work in progress, and this team is doing FAR more than anyone would have even dreamed when the season started. As for the rest of the ignorant rant about the administration being anti-football, that's just baseless and silly.

Seriously? If you don't like the basketball team and what they've done this year, then why are you posting on the basketball board?

Let me go through your points and add some logic and facts:
-- Who says we're trying to be Duke? We haven't tried to change our image into a bball school... we've tried to become competitive and win at every sport that we play (as we should).
-- If the ACC is a basketball-first conference (and it is, although I'd argue football has increasing importance), what would you call the Big East?? Turn back the clock to ten years ago... what conference would you rather have had us join? We moved to the ACC because of football, in addition to the benefits afforded our other sports. The reason why the ACC isn't one of the top football conferences is because schools like us and FSU have had some down years recently. We're both on our way back up, and when we consistently start winning 10+ games a year again, the conference will look much, much better.
-- We spent millions on basketball facilities because we kinda didn't have ANY at the time. The BUC has been a godsend for this program. Or would you rather we still played on top of the rubble of the old Miami Arena? We've also spent money on football -- look at the new addition to the Hecht that is being built.
-- Who says we're the most overrated team in the country? Again, if you're a Canes fan, why are you hating on the basketball team? If you don't care about UM basketball, then don't visit this board! Otherwise, you're just trolling those of us here who are trying to enjoy our best season ever.
-- And as others have pointed out, why can't we be good at everything?

Now please, do us a favor and keep your ill-informed opinions to yourself.
