Toure and Smith were by far our biggest liabilities on the entire defense last year, especially in coverage, and they are deciding to run it back - worse not give any reps to Wiley and Pruitt. Insanity.

I think you all are making the LBer position this big issue when the defensive numbers don’t validate it. LBer is always going to be a liability in pass coverage. And Toure was one of the main reasons our defense was as dominant as it was last year.

I think you all are making the LBer position this big issue when the defensive numbers don’t validate it. LBer is always going to be a liability in pass coverage. And Toure was one of the main reasons our defense was as dominant as it was last year.

You’re in zero way was one of the reasons our defense was dominant last season, that’s one of biggest lies I have ever heard. Quite literally our worst or 2nd worst player on the entire defense. Maybe 3rd or 4th if you include Damari or O’Conners playoff ending, or when Chase Smith was on field. I’m not being sarcastic whatsoever.

It’s a big issue because it was predictable and exactly what I said was going to play out has so far. That’s why I’m so annoyed about this. LB was the clear worst part of our defense last yr and we got worse going from Wes to Smith. Pair that with our DLine obviously being worse without Bain and Mesidor and now our DBs suffering major injuries…

If you listen to the DC, it’s pretty clear why he’s on the field. He trusts him & isn’t as prone to costly mental mistakes as less experienced LBs. Not directly tied to seniority- though soon to apply for AARP card - and obviously isn’t a South Florida product.

In the Monday coaches presser this afternoon, Coach Hetherman was asked specifically about Wiley. He had high praise for him and said he’s learning to communicate better and where he’s supposed to be and he’s excited to see how he progresses going forward.

Look, the Toure in Smith tandem is not ideal and it’s going to hurt us sooner rather than later. Yes, they have experience, but they lack speed and athleticism compared to Wiley and Pruitt. Putting Wiley and Pruitt on the field at the same time at least this first half of the season would be a liability. Wouldn’t it be better to pair up one of the Young bucks with one of the veterans to try to get the best of both worlds at least for the first half of the season until Wiley and Pruitt get a little more adjusted? Than the second half of the season I really think Wylie and Pruitt would give us the best chance to dominate.

The game this Saturday is a game for Chase and Toure. This teams just loves to run the rock and both Toure and Chase can just focus on playing physical and blowing up the run

You’re saying “it was predictable” based off something you made up you’re framing the LBer position as one where elite pass coverage ability is expected??

Just like the main aspect of a cornerback isn’t how hard they can hit and well they can tackle 230 pound running backs.. the same applies to LBers when it comes to pass coverage.. you think they are suppose to have the man coverage skills of a corner and that’s not reality.

Nobody wanted Mo Toure on this team with the expectation he was going to be lockdown in pass coverage. His job is to be an enforcer and that’s what he added to this team last year and continues to add this year.

I agree that Smith shouldn’t be a starter but I also know the coaches have him starting for a reason until he’s no longer starting. But I don’t agree with the smear campaign against Toure.. he was never expected to be even slightly good in pass coverage.

And Just bc CFB offenses pass at a 55% + rate that doesn’t change the fact that coaches are mainly recruiting LBers to be dominant in run support. Defensive coordinators hope for the most part offenses throw the ball at other targets that aren’t being covered by their linebackers.
