Reminding myself how preposterous the media hot takes were back when we were pursuing Mario...we can't ever let these media clowns live this idiocy down.

I don’t remember it being this much of a saga but this is when I was at my sickest time before the liver transplant. Did Oregon feel Mario pulled a Saban on them?
Oregon had their arrogant heads up their asses almost the entire time until it was nearly done deal. They spent a couple of weeks openly mocking us for how delusional we were thinking we had any chance of taking Mario. I spent that entire time telling my Oregon fan friends out of kindness that they need to prepare themselves to lose him because I *knew* who we had on the task and that there was near zero chance we would fail. It was glorious watching them and the national media as they began realizing in real time... *oh* ****** .

I love this! Pure Gold!

In fairness, Miami’s football budget pre Mario is nowhere near what it is today. Miami wasn’t a mediocre program for 20 years because of bad luck. It was because we were cheap and didn’t spend anything on coaches, facilities, or anything else that all the major programs were sinking money into. Without the reassurance that he was going to get the budget he wanted, Mario would never have come here.

The narratives were hilarious.

“Billy Napier is at Florida and is a better recruiter than Cristobal.” (LMFAO)
“Miami doesnt have the money that Oregon has.”
“Miami is doing this backwards hiring a coach before the AD.”
“The days of circling the wagon around S FL are over.”

Uh, no. Wrong.

While NIL did not exist back then, Miami began spending on coaching and facilities when Richt arrived. Manny didn't fail for lack of budget.

Mario demanded certain things be accomplished on a short timeline, and that has happened. And, yes, as the success has built, so have the resources, particularly on the external side.

Jesse palmer called Napier a "recruiting Alpha!"

And Galloway said Miami would never be a good situation.

And even David Pollack said "Mario hasn't done much winning and Kyle Whittingham is a real tough guy compared to Mario"

😂😂😂

He demanded a commitment financially to the football program that we had not been willing to accept before. I’m so glad we hired this man. He has had his growing pains but he is my unquestioned leader.

Right and Manny had above average resources. The boosters have really taken it to another level with Mario though.

You’re going to tell me that Mario has the same budget as Richt and Manny. That’s absolutely unbelievable.

Galloway is a grumpy old degenerate. His broadcast skills are hot garbage too. The former players who get let into the broadcast media world on name recognition alone is absolutely absurd.

Not really.

Maybe some fans felt this way but the boosters and people close to the program felt that he was just a good recruiter and not a good coach.

What was wild too is that literally almost every major CFB voice came out and said that Mario would never leave Oregon for Miami and that Miami fans were delusional for even considering it. Like to the point I think some people were just using it for engagement bait.

The only person I remember offering a counter at the time was Bruce Feldman, who basically said he heard Miami would actually give Mario what he wanted and he could see him leaving because Mario had always wanted the Miami job and this was basically his last chance to do it. And his co-host who I hate Stewart Mandel clowned him for having that take
