Why will this time be different?

Why do we as fans think that this administration will make the right hire this time. The last time around the 3 finalists were Golden, Randy Edsall and Marc Trestmann. All 3 have since been fired. Prior to that Randy was hired over Schiano (fired from his next job and a disaster) and Leach (also a disaster). Prior to that Coker was hired over Barry Alvarez (would not have fit the Miami culture) and Dave Wannstedt (fired from his next college job at Pitt).

Not only have the eventual hires been disasters, but so have the finalists. I know its a different president and AD, but members of the BOT (Di Mare etc) and a potential search firm (Parker) remain the same.

It might not be, but this time the administration (I hope) sees a fanbase that's basically ready to (or already has) revolted. They've come out (at least Fat Manny reported) and said they'll spend upwards of $4 million. That's, hopefully, a start.

Well if they plan on hiring Mario Cristobal they may as well just pack up the program. My hope is the ACC is putting some pressure on them because we've been totally irrelevant since arriving in the conference.

i think they saw the emptiness of that stadium on Saturday at 2:30 and realized it was a big issue.

cheap hires worked in the 80s and 90s. they wont work in today's CFB landscape and the BOT isn't inept.

I think you just hit on the fact that finding a good coach for any program, let alone one as unique as ours, is really difficult. That's why this whole "gotta be a Miami guy" thing is so overplayed. Schnellenberger, Jimmy, Dennis...none of them was a Miami guy. Butch was only a Miami guy in that he was an assistant here for a couple of years. They just have to be a ******* cutthroat who is trying to be Belichick, not Bear Bryant.

It might not be, but dammit we're emerging from under a 5 year cloud.

Let the fans have a glimmer of hope before our dreams are crushed.

Before the school was worried about keeping a clean image. Coker was fired because of the FIU brawl. We didn't want Leech because he didn't seem like a disciplinarian. Randy was a disciplinarian. When he left Al was also going to keep the program clean and gave off that clean cut, shirt and tie Joe Pa look which at the time stood for everything that was right about college football. It was part of Donna's "new Miami" but it hasn't worked. We need a strong coach if we don't want to become Vanderbilt.

I don't expect it to be markedly different. If we find competent defensive tackles and attack on defense, it has to be somewhat improved at minimum.

Overall I'm convinced the stadium situation is an anchor, far beyond conventional wisdom. It's laughable when some Miami fans want to pretend it doesn't matter. Jason Sehorn is on College Football Daily right now on ESPNU. They have devoted a long segment to the Canes coaching situation. Sehorn nailed it when discussing the stadium situation and how it inevitably kills recruiting. Sehorn compared it to the gameday atmosphere at USC and how the Coliseum looks and feels to recruits, compared to Sun Life. Sehorn had an excellent summary: "It's a drain on the program."

1) Better talent situation
2) Better pool of candidates (IMO)
3) (Alleged) willingness to pony up real $$$

The only think that our BoT has shown is that they are reactionary and really only care about public sentiment. We have reached a point where they absolute must either put up or pack the whole thing up and go home.

The only way this is any different is if we spend real money this time. Not just salary for the HC, but also assistants, commitment to an indoor facility etc. The university needs to decide if they are in it to win it, or in it just to plod along with 7-5 to 9-3 type years.

OP, you might be right, considering the latest rumors that Chud is the #1 target.

This program is a ******* joke.

****, we need something as fans of this crappy team to get excited about. They'll ***** this hire up, no doubt, but can I not have at least a few days to imagine Butch or Herman patrolling the sidelines as coach next year.

Last time players had a choice they picked coker. Now 10+ years later they want players tobpick again. We have a delusional fanbase living in the past.

If the university wants to get serious about football, they need
To make a real effort to get out of the sun-life lease and get a plan in place for a stadium close to campus, upgrade the training staff
( sorry swasey you can stick around in another role),
Of course make the right HC hire, let former players back on campus and allow them on the sidelines at games.

Agree...do not want Chud. Average recruiter, hasn't coached in college in >10 yrs, doesn't have a personality to get recruits excited. All the names so far, except maybe a Hue Jackson have been blah blah ho hum, no original thought behind it.

OP, you might be right, considering the latest rumors that Chud is the #1 target.

This program is a ****ing joke.
