The offense's struggles are well documented, so I tried looking back over the last two to three seasons to find the common factor in our poorest defensive performances. While you could find pockets of games where teams had some success (Notre Dame 1st half 2016, Pitt 1st half 2017), I could only find three or four where the other team consistently moved the ball on us for 60 minutes.

The first was Clemson, who just overwhelmed us with a team playing at another level.

The other three were Wisconsin in the two bowl games and Boston College last year.

In my opinion the key to the those three games came down to one mitigating factor-experienced offensive line play. Last season Boston College was one of only 18 teams to return all five starters and returned seven players with more than 10 career starts. Their starting five had over 160 combined starts when they played us. Wisconsin also brought that experince to our games, with their starters combining for 189 starts between them when we met in New York.

Last year Florida rode that kind of experience to their 10 wins, Franks didn't do much in any game and was actually benched for poor play against Missouri. In their win against Michigan, the one win I feel has gotten them to their massively overrated ranking, they ran it 40 times for 257 yards with Franks only completing 13 of 23 passes.

This year the Turds don't have that luxury.

The offensive line they'll roll out there tonight only has a combined 24 starts.

Our front seven is going to feast on that inexperience and expose Franks for what he is under pressure, A fraud. That will shorten the game, with them trying to run against us, which they won't because no one dimenional team, the noteable exceptions mentioned above aside, has historically had success against Manny's defense.

I know we have many of the same issues with our o-line, but their situation is far more dire. In my opinion our inside, with Donaldson and Scaife, will prove to be a strength this year as they've settle into their natural positions. Campbell was highly rated and Zion , our biggest question mark, is sounding more like a freak than a project.

All we'll need is 24 points in this game to win. We got close to that in most games last year with an offense who's multiple layers of disfunction from coaching to play calling to QB have been discussed here endlessly. I feel Enos can get us there,

Prediction: 24-17 Canes

Love your point on the OL, I've been thinking the same. In those games, our defense was also significantly hurt by our inept offense (especially Clemson and 2017 Wisconsin IMO). Florida is overrated and Franks is garbage. Get pressure on him and tackle in open field. We rolllllllll

I agree. I think we destroy their line and offense tonight.

I just hope Jarren has enough time to make some plays to win it. We won't run it on them, and they will blitz us every single play.

Could be an ugly game.

We dominate. Jeff Thomas and Mike Harley are running by fools whether by hook or crook. Hightower possesses extra terrestrial ball skills in the vein of a Randy Moss.

Deejay Dallas doesn’t even look like he’s been trying hard yet, it’s his show now and Cam Harris only knows how to go 100 MPH. They will be way beyond solid behind that talented and experienced interior OL.

I’m excited to see Will Mallory beat em deep, make em miss, and stiff arm em to the ground. And I want to watch Brevin do the same thing.

I like Pinck to try and decapitate an opponent early. Shaq and Amari should clean up anything that Pinck or the front four didn’t tackle for a loss.

We don’t have a front four, we have a front 8. All of them are starters. LetsMeetAtTheQB.

I’m excited about the punter too. Thing is though, when you score you don’t punt anyway.

Jarren “Young Bull” Williams. He’s going shock the world this season. He came to Miami to get to the NFL. He has a real coach now and he’s a part of a real program.

Thank you Tate Martell and N’Kosi Perry. Your hard work and preparation delivered us a version of Jarren that knows what competition is and what it means to persevere.

He might get hit tonight (or he might get up outta there to the tune of 20 MPH) but he will be tested. And the best feeling in the world is seeing your QB stand tall after facing adversity.

Game Day, Game Day!!

They have the hype. They and their fan base have pseudo confidence.

Miami has the motivation. Underdog, no respect(needs to be earned), new staff means better coached and better prepared.

Frankly Miami is more talented .

Would you trade Jeff Thomas for any of their WRs? No

You want Perine over Dallas or Harris? No

You want their TE’s over ours? Lol

You trading Garvin, Hill, Rousseau for their DE’s? I’m not

Our LB’s or theirs? You get my point.

I like our D line to dominate their Oline. I think Mullen will try a lot of field stretching plays to counter the ineptness of their O-line and keep our clear talent advantage on the dline off balance. We have to be aggressive but smart.

On offense, it's simple with a first time starting QB: our running game has to be established. I want Jarren to come out slinging but realistically at first, a one-two punch of Deejay and Camron will force them to over play the run and open up the pass. It'll also counter all their pass heavy blitzing and probably throw off their aggressive defense. I bet Grantham tries to overplay the run and force Jarren to throw a lot more given he's new. I think Jarren will be up to the challenge (as will Enos).

I have us: 31-21, and we pull away late. Jarren calms down as the game goes on and has a great second half.

I think the two biggest keys to the game is whether our OL can hold up and give Jarren Williams time to throw and also help us establish some kind of running game. The second key is we have to be able to get pressure on Franks and force him into bad decisions. If we do both of these and limit turnovers, I think we can win.

I'll say it again, O-Lines are usually the main reason for a team's success, from Pop Warner through the NFL - single great skill players are much easier to find than a great group of O-linemen who play together as a unit. They are involved with every offensive play, skills, not necessarily.

It's definitely tough to find matchups where I'd switch their players for ours. And after watching that Franks interview I'm even more convinced they're riding that Michigan win, where they ran the ball well, as some kind of game plan against us.

That ain't going to happen.

Pretty simple really. Stop the run and force Fah-leep-ay to beat us with his arm. If he gets the power run game going (see Wisconsin, BC last year) it will be tough. Curious to see how our dline holds up in this game. They need to come up big for us to have a chance.
