The offense's struggles are well documented, so I tried looking back over the last two to three seasons to find the common factor in our poorest defensive performances. While you could find pockets of games where teams had some success (Notre Dame 1st half 2016, Pitt 1st half 2017), I could only find three or four where the other team consistently moved the ball on us for 60 minutes.
The first was Clemson, who just overwhelmed us with a team playing at another level.
The other three were Wisconsin in the two bowl games and Boston College last year.
In my opinion the key to the those three games came down to one mitigating factor-experienced offensive line play. Last season Boston College was one of only 18 teams to return all five starters and returned seven players with more than 10 career starts. Their starting five had over 160 combined starts when they played us. Wisconsin also brought that experince to our games, with their starters combining for 189 starts between them when we met in New York.
Last year Florida rode that kind of experience to their 10 wins, Franks didn't do much in any game and was actually benched for poor play against Missouri. In their win against Michigan, the one win I feel has gotten them to their massively overrated ranking, they ran it 40 times for 257 yards with Franks only completing 13 of 23 passes.
This year the Turds don't have that luxury.
The offensive line they'll roll out there tonight only has a combined 24 starts.
Our front seven is going to feast on that inexperience and expose Franks for what he is under pressure, A fraud. That will shorten the game, with them trying to run against us, which they won't because no one dimenional team, the noteable exceptions mentioned above aside, has historically had success against Manny's defense.
I know we have many of the same issues with our o-line, but their situation is far more dire. In my opinion our inside, with Donaldson and Scaife, will prove to be a strength this year as they've settle into their natural positions. Campbell was highly rated and Zion , our biggest question mark, is sounding more like a freak than a project.
All we'll need is 24 points in this game to win. We got close to that in most games last year with an offense who's multiple layers of disfunction from coaching to play calling to QB have been discussed here endlessly. I feel Enos can get us there,
Prediction: 24-17 Canes
