Why the hype about Sanders?

1988 FSU was ranked number one preseason. They did a rap song featuring "prime". They opened against the U. FINAL score Miami 31 Deion's team 0 (ZERO, ZIP, Nothing as Miami moved down the field with a new QB (Steve Walsh) at will despite "prime".

We turned the Nole rap into the FSU Blues!

You had to be there to see us embarrass number one and preseason all-american sanders. Part of our 58 game home win streak!
I was there and it was quite the stomping. LOL

What's funny about Deion is that he's seen as the unquestioned GOAT as a DB, but no one has ever asked whether someone like Mike Haynes, a guy that could cover as well as Deion, and was actually useful in the run game could be just as good. The difference between Deion and guys like Woodson, Night Train Lane, Haynes, and other elite corners was that he was flashy and a media darling. I don't believe the gap between Deion and the other elite corners is as large as his jock sniffers think.
It’s not Champ Bailey, Revis, was just as good. They just don’t get hyped up as much

Ya’ll see That Prime has a 4 part Documentary about him at JSU??

Now, it makes total sense why there was always cameras around him, even in intimate private coaching moments.

Bruh has created his own brand & used JSU to get where he’s at. Never seen a coach create a documentary about COACHING?
I don't think you are that hip to deion. You realize he has been recording an documenting himself since he was the hc of the high school on Dallas. He'll I remember watching his sons when they were like 10...this ain't nothing new. He just continued it at Jsu as expected...its the reason he uses his sons in recruiting because these kids have Been watching them on reality TV since that time period. They mini celebrities in their own right.

Are you a black man of any descent? It’s relevant to the convo. For elite players (especially DB’s) or any player for that matter Prime time is a living legend. Seeing as to how football is dominated at the skill positions by black people a living legend is always gonna be appealing to play for. There’s never been another Deion sanders. And even when he’s gone he name will live on.I wasn’t old enough to watch prime in his prime. But the internet is a thing and that personality traveled he was larger than life and flashy..coming from where I come from we idolize that
The funny part is.. this is a cane board ...and Deion is as south Florida as it gets..he's from Fort Myers.

He's the closest thing ever to being a cane that wasn't a cane..he's a nole..but honestly doesn't even rep them tough.

I don't see how ppl can be fans of the canes..know deion is the best cb to ever play the game and are confused on his allure.

Yall look like the folks out of touch with the it's all about the u 30 for 30s we have had.

These the same idiots that don't understand why kids would choose to go to Alabama and Ohio State over the "BEACH" in Miami.

It’s really wild.. Deion went to FSU but he has no existing relationship with them. People assume he would do them favors off the strength of him playing there but prime always looked at it as if he was doing a favor to whomever he played for it the other way around. I would think him being from south Florida would make people stop the cap lol

Some things are just transcendent. And there are some things that are undeniable. If those 5 star WR kids go to Ohio state next cycle Ima be like ****.. but Ima understand why completely. Questioning the appeal of deion sanders when you can’t tell the story of football without saying saying his name feels like haram

Bro, that’s the point. When cameras are around u, u r going to act a certain way to put u in the best light, I don’t care who u r. When u’re image conscience, u’re going to portray a certain side of u. So my point is, his “calling” to JSU wasn’t authentic; if any school would’ve offered Deion a job coming from HS, he would’ve went. JSU took a chance and he unnecessarily added 10 to a situation. He wasn’t about that HBCU life; he was about that parlay life. That’s cool, just don’t use them as a pawn.

The way Deion embarrassed FSU last year was enough for me to forgive his college choice. That being said if he does it to Miami this year I'm back with the *****.

That was one **** of a pawn. Man's got them a new practice field, locker room, improved school attendance (one of my friends kids went there just because of deion aint even playing football) **** he spent his own money on alot of stuff.

I get you on the camera around stuff...but he seems to always been THAT guy in front of the cameras and behind it. A kid i know got drafted going to JSU and now has 5 sacks in the nfl as a rookie. I think him playing Edge for Deion helped him get drafted in the 6th round.

I never thought Deion was about the HBCU life fully...any one with sense would see it would be a stepping stone gig...there is no HBCU that likely can afford him on a consistent base save for Howard or 1 that jhust got flushed for cash.

Deion just showed though that alot of these former nfl guys (ed reed) should take that plunge to HBCU level and build themselves a brand and move up the ranks that way...i see Eddie George has taken the plunge at Tenn State...Hue Jackson is at Grambling State.

Willie Simmons at FAMU is doing a real good job...we have an alumni Bubba McDowell (Prairie View)

Hue and Bubba had been coaching obviously. Deion at least coached HS + Pro Bowl and AS Games. George was surprising.

Reed should be more of a shock than Sanders.

Well, when you're at a program that wasn't even attracting 2*s, you have to do what you have to do. We did the same ****, people all of a sudden have amnesia from those Raising Canes videos LOL. Before Golden got here, in a world where kids mostly communicated on Facebook & Twitter, our social media presence was zero. ****, we were still soliciting funds via snail mail & ****, took Blake coming in here to update our soliciting efforts to email, and that was in 2013!!!

If James Houston stayed at UF he would not be in the nfl. Deion gave him an opportunity and put him at DE. He’s undersized but he may stick around in the league for a few years because of that. Every HBCU or fcs coach is using that level as a stepping stone. It’s just whether or not you get the offer to leave. Coaches are dipping for positional roles let alone a HC gig. I’m not really bothered by the whole “my calling” comment. I think he fulfilled that. Now if he was like Al Golden sneaking out in the middle of the night begging for HC while his team was struggling (mostly because of him) then I would have an issue.

Deion is about Deion. All he reps is Deion.

Allure? He's just running game. It's top notch, but that's all it is. About as much substance as a bottle of flavored water.

I mean cool.. but that’s all Mario Cristobal is in that case too. That’s all every coach who has never won anything is until they go out and prove it. Deion is a legend. We had folks around here losing their mind over Ed Reed being on staff here and now with prime it’s just running game. Man miss me

Suck him off if you will. You do you. But you miss me with that nonsense. At the end of the day, this is a UM message board.
