Why is the defense getting a pass?

Hmmm, I’m not a genius but I think I can answer this.
1.) Almost EVERY team besides us runs an uptempo offense.
2.) We go out 3nOut, more than any team we face.
3.) Clemsons offense time of position was 40 min compared to our 20.

because they gave us a chance to win tonight and kept us in the game when it easily could have been 70-3

I give them a pass on the last 2 drives. They were out of gas.

Zero urgency on defense from the start. Steele called a conservative gameplan that was based on our front 4 controlling the game. Instead, it was a reactive defense where our biggest holes were exposed (11/40/4/8).

This!!

Opposing teams seem like they study our film, find our weaknesses and exploit them. By the time we adjust we are in too deep of a hole to climb out.

Yes, the offense sucks balls but the defense gave up 24 points in the first half, 14 on Clemson's first 2 drives.

DJ Ukelele ran around and through us like we weren't even aware of him.

I credit them for playing tough in the second half (until the last 8 minutes) but everyone in America knew that game was over at halftime.

Actually, it was over before it started but I always harbor some foolish optimism.

GO CANES!!!!
You would want a pass if your offense put you in bad field position every time you take the field. Plus you never get any rest between the turn overs and three in outs.

They don’t get a pass, but 24 is really, really good.

And all the chatter about him being a gym rat and film junkie, that’s the kind of kid who can take a massive leap next year and be a legit All-America Safety. He’s allowed his eyes to get him burned too many times this year but he is a tremendous football player. We need about 50 more of him but I’m excited to see him lead this defense next year.
