Fine, I'll play.
Richt was 145-51 at UGA and 83-37 in the SEC. He won 6 SEC East titles and 2 SEC titles. He won 2 Sugar Bowls. He finished ranked
#2 ,
#3 ,
#3 ,
#4 ,
#6 ,
#6 ,
#9 ,
#10 ,
#18 ,
#2 2,
#2 3,
#2 5. He went to a bowl every year, winning 9.
Schiano was 68-67 at Rutgers. He was 28-48 in the Big East. He was 2-19 in the Big East with Miami and VT in it. He never won the Big East, finishing tied for 2nd twice with a 5-2 record. His best season was 11-2, 5-2 when they finished
#12 and won the Texas Bowl (that's a thing?). That was his only 10 win season, and only season he finished ranked.
Now, you can say look at Rutgers before, which is fair, but I'd say, not so fast. Look at UGA before Richt. People don't realize UGA was mediocre to decent at best from Dooley's last years through Goff and Donnan. UGA fired Richt because they had lofty expectations, but only had those expectations because of Richt. UGA never won the East under Donnan. Won 10 games once, best finish was
#10 and best bowl was the Peach. Ray Goff was 46-34-1 and 26-28 in the SEC. Only finished ranked twice. Dooley was 20-10-1 in the SEC after Herschel graduated. In the 17 years, post-Herschel, pre-Richt, UGA was 71-53-1 in the SEC, never won the SEC, finished ranked in the Top 25 six times, in the top 10 twice. In Richt's 15 years they won 83 SEC games, in a much tougher SEC (though they did expand from 7 to 8 SEC games in 1992, but the winning % still proves my point), finished in the top 25 twelve times and the Top 10 eight times.
Ok, I'm done.
