Why is Carter backing up Crawford?

Crawford missed over 20 tackles in that FAU game. I would rather see Johnson back there.

It's not about speed, athleticism or playmaking ability in this scheme. It's about doing your job.

Trusty Trent and Dependable Dallas may have asthma and clubbed feet, but they do their jobs. Period. You guys can talk shlt all you want, but Golden said himself that Dallas was "42% above the team μ in impact factor takedowns on monetary drives ending in the suffix -ness."

He also leads the team in tackles during low tides. Good luck taking a kid like this off the field.

He's too rough and aggressive with the other players.

Just look at what he did to that poor FAU running back.

You have to find a spot for a player that leads the team in tackles during low tides.

haaaa

Same reasons the following started at UM:

Jimmy Gaines
Fentress
Shayon Green
Cornelius
Highsmith
Kacy Rodgers

Golden will always play the "smarter" kid over the more "talented" kid.

That is his system.

The defense is "complex". If a kid like Jamal Carter (barely met minimum college entrance requirements) doesn't know where to be, how can he make a play?

On the other hand, a kid like Dallas Crawford is usually in position to make a play but can't because of physical limitation.

Al Golden belongs at Don Bosco prep where he can take the AP science class and put them in a position to make plays against the rivals high schools AP math class.

Same reason he is recruiting slow unathletic kids on defense like:

Ryan Fines
Terry McCray
Jamie Gordiner
etc.

In an ideal world, we would just play Bush and Jenkins, but both have had their share of injuries, so I understand wanting to rotate. The problem is our other options.

I don't want to hate on Crawford -- I have lots of respect for Dallas playing where the coaches have asked him to, and he has had some good moments for us -- but he was exposed last week, like you said. Without knowing the inner-workings of the team, and knowing the other safety options, Dallas truthfully is our third best option right now.

Carter is far superior physically, and his big hit definitely was a momentum play for us, but he is too one-dimensional at this point in my opinion and should probably only be used situationally. The fact he doesn't really wrap up makes for a big risk/reward factor, which is sort of the antithesis of Golden's defensive philosophy.

Jaquan is a wild card -- he isn't much more of a burner than Crawford, and probably isn't as physically or mentally ready. Not sure whether it is smart or dumb to give him his first significant burn against Nebraska. Tons of potential, but is he better right now than Carter or Crawford? Maybe only as a nickel, but Corn has that position locked down seemingly.

Throw in a lack of depth at corner, and there aren't really a lot of options.

Our players are taught to take on the blocks instead of making plays on the football which is crazy. Watch the FAU game again and you would see our lbs running straight into their blockers when they had a straight shot at their running backs.

I call this the yearly, "Glenn Cook" award. Given to the guy who is starting because he always is where he needs to be, but just can't make the play. But because he is knows the defense and is always in the position to make the play, he will always start.

Shannon started that crap when he was playing Glenn Cook every **** week. Now its just a yearly thing. Golden has perfected it. In his mind, he believes at some point Crawford WILL make the play. Its just playing the odds. If he is in the right place, at the right time 10 times, he has to make the play 6 times right? That's 60%! Golden and Dno will take that all day! And this makes sense to them somehow. Smh.

Meanwhile our leading ball hawk in the secondary, Ray Jenkins, and our most physically gifted safety, Jamal Carter, are just "in the rotation".

No other elite team in college does this from what ive seen. Its just pure madness. The best players, play. PERIOD.

Jenkins and Bush need to start. It's mind boggling these coaches are on their last lifeline and aren't playing the best players. It's hard for these coaches to surprise me but this is one I did not think they truly had in them.
