Why don’t we motion? Question for Roman and the board

I don’t recall seeing any motion prior to the snap other than the Rb moving to either side of the QB. Defense in turn barely has to adjust coverage or scheme and plenty of time to think how they will rush or who to cover. I don’t know jack about football x and o’s but it just seems so freaking simple. I don’t understand how motioning would make the game difficult for Kosi or Rosier. Not to beat a dead horse but Jordan, JT, and the backs should create much more confusion if they motioned leading to open receivers and easier completions.

Are there some plays that we could call that would give us a better chance? I’m certain of that, but we call plays that we worked hard on, believed in and have had success over the last 30 years, so I feel pretty good about them going in

I should probably just keep my mouth shut because I don't know, but...

I think Richt has a very specific idea as to what he wants his offense to look like, and motion isn't part of it. I agree that motion can do those things, but Richt's offense is jumbled and confused enough without tacking anything else onto it. I wouldn't mind seeing motion as part of an offense installed by somebody else with a different philosophy, but I don't think Richt is the guy to add it.

In the end it's the trying that matters, not the result.

Thx for reply but what is so jumbled and confusing about his offense? It seems pretty basic to me...

Again, others are more qualified to answer, but since you asked...

He has this vision of power running with deep passes sprinkled in (there's a nice piece on here talking about that- I forget if it's the same article, but there was some good stuff about how he's not giving Perry short routes to work with when the deep stuff isn't there), but then sometimes he wants to do RPO. Some games he doesn't break out the RPO at all. Sometimes he uses bubble screens quite effectively, then you won't see one for a few games even though it looks like the D is giving it to you. He had Kaaya hand off and fake like he was keeping the ball and running when everybody knew he wouldn't. Now that he's got Perry who can run and throw while rolling out, he leaves him in the pocket all the time.

Does he want to be a power running team even though we don't have the personnel for it or does he want to be an RPO team? Maybe this all fits together somehow, but I don't see it.

Got it and agree on Kaaya/ Kosi points. Roman just posted another thread on spreading our formations wider without even using motion. Look at that empty middle of the field. Like you I don’t know jack but some things are basic common sense and should give better results. Thx again

He doesn’t use motion because that’s designed to diagnose coverage and audible, he doesn’t have an OC in the booth that can change plays on the fly and he doesn’t trust either Qb beyond a simple check to draw/bubble screen to do it on their own.

Knute Rockne and John Heisman didn't need to use motion so Richt doesn't need to use motion.

You can joke all you want, but this is how it goes. First it's "motion", next thing you know it's the "forward pass", and murder and sodomy won't be far behind. It's like how smoking pot turns you into a crackhead. It's inevitable.

You forget about the step where we implement the wing T.
